New wolf, old tricks?

Hi,

I’m new around here. Usually I lurk more around the WIP section.

I’m a living ancestor. Started GW with the Rogue Trader compendium. A time when the wolves were not riding wolves.

I’m French and currently living in China.

I stopped the hobby in 2005, got rid of all my stash while moving to the USA.

A few months ago I ran into a GW store and the old fire was reignited. The idea of finding discipline of a creative project seduced me again (you, son of Slaanesh…).

I’m a modeler, not a player. I don’t know anything about fluff or background. Only read one GW novels, the 1rst Gaunt.

Finding bitz in China is impossible so I bought many, too many, boxes. I was thinking of recreating old races of the GW universe that cannot be mentioned here (the vertically challenged bearded ones for example) and Inq28. One of them is a SW squad box.

I want by doing SW to pay a tribute to my older brother who introduced me the hobby and to GW in particular. He bought me my first model a Keeper of Secret (you, son of Slaanesh…again?). and taught me to always think outside the box, use the detail in an illustration for example to create an unique model. A gift and a curse for someone like me with a more than serious inclination to procrastination and ADD. (Chaos is always on my mind). He collected and converted astonishing SW. He kicked my butt in several games too.

SW are perfect for kit bashing (we used to call that converting since all the models were metal before). I like the idea of a brutal, grim, hairy, Viking like SM (my older sister spent 13 years in Sweden so it’s destiny no?)

I was very inspired by some of you guys’ work and ideas, refusing compromises.

I’d like to pay a tribute to this forum by building a shield maiden to start and post it here if it’s ok.

My skills are probably rusty and I don’t have all that need to work but I’ll give it a try. Don’t expect much.

I remember also, I believe, in the Eye of the Terror expansion, the possibility of playing a lost legion using chaos part to replace their damaged equipment. Is this still doable? Sounds like even for kit bashing to me (you, son of Slaanesh… again ??).

Welcome welcome. You're not the only space wolves player with ADD. One of these days I'll finish one freaking space wolves model. I must have about 2000 points mostly assembled but covered in third party bits and green stuff! The worst part is that some of these models have been fully built, half painted, and then stripped and reassembled TWICE. YEESH.

Thanks Brothers

Ale : checked

Stool : Cheked

Kitbash : you always need more  (you, son of Slaanesh… again ???).

Glad to know that ADD still rules!!

:)

I saw Brother Valerian post on the 13th legion.

A kitbash SW/CSM is still official ?

The idea is still that they repare their armour with whatever they find and keep weapons as trophies right?

Well there aren't any official rules for the 13th company any more (a supplement is rumoured for sometime fter our 6th ed. dex, but I doubt it personally). But there's no reason why you couldn't just use the normal SW rules for your SW/CSM kitbashes.

As an aside, I've always considered kitbashing and converting to be subtly distinct. A kitbash is using multiple plastic kits, replacing parts from one with another, eg I have a squad of Blood Claws with Assault Marine running legs. Whereas a conversion is more intricate and complicated, eg. a Wolf Guard that I had to cut the arms up a few times to adjust the pose to get a 2 handed grip on his sword.
