Horus Heresy Weekender

Recommended Posts

Hi

I know there was a previous thread but it's been dormant awhile so rather than threadmancy I thought I'd start a fresh one.

I'm wondering who from this forum is going, who is going not knowing anyone and where people are staying.

For my part the answer is, I'm going, I don't know anyone else who is going, just counting on being surrounded by like-minded individuals, I meant to stay at The Belfry (the venue) itself but left it too late and now it's all sold out so I've had to settle for the Premier Inn down the road.

I thought it would be great to meet some other forum members face to face. Normally 40k t-shirts would make you stand out in a crowd but this is one event where that may not hold true. I'm going to be sporting some of my older GW wear. I have a T-shirt with Interrogator Chaplain Asmodai on the front from the Apocalypse 100 event which must have been in about 1994 and my first GamesDay T-shirt - 1997 with a big Ork on the front.

I, for one, will be there. Booked my ticket as soon as they came available, and with being at the event last year I got to buy mine a couple of days before the general release (good job FW!), and then promptly booked myself into the Belfry for both the Friday and the Saturday night.

A little tip from last year - don't leave it until the time the event is due to start to arrive. I planned to get there a little early (and even stopped off at the services down the road to kill a little time after a 3 hour drive), and despite it being 30 minutes before it was all scheduled to start there were huge amounts of people buying from the sales stands, including the pre-release stuff such as Fulgrim / Legion Glaive / Legion Praetors / Books / etc. Nearly missed out on a couple of things, but glad I didn't arrive any later. Hence this year I've booked myself a night at the Belfry for Friday as well as Sat night, as all I'll have to do is roll out of bed and get in the sales line, plus I'm guessing there'll be FW / BL peeps knocking around on the Friday setting things up an staying over.

Thanks for the tip about timing. I've checked again and The Belfry does have some rooms but they are over £100 more expensive than the Premier Inn so I'll stay down the road and spend the money I save on more goodies.

Actually, you probably should call them. The Belfry do an event deal when you're staying for something being held there. A buddy and I are sharing a twin for £90 between us. That's quit a reasonable £45 each... we stayed down the road last year and wished we'd got a room in the Belfry. It was a hassle getting back, um, tipsy, and an effort to be prompt Sunday morning.

Weird request: If anyone from the B&C starts talking to me, "Hi, I'm [insert Real Name Here]" never, ever works, but "Dude, I'm [Forum Name] from Bolter and Chainsword" almost always does.

These two approaches are the key difference between these two scenarios:

- #1 -

Katie: Who was that?

Me: No idea.

- #2 -

Katie: Who was that?

Me: Someone I know from the B&C.

Walk up to ADB and give him a big prison bear hug.

Me: I feel...violated? Do I need therapy now?

:P

m_r_parker ; Balthamal Blindhamster - Guys could someone of you buy me some stuff (BL Anthology for Weekender; Damnation of Pythos) and send it to Europe? I will pay for the books and shipping costs. You could contact me via private message. Thank you in advance.

Whatever you do, don't go for the high-5 - tried that with A-D-B last year during one of the signing sessions and he left me hanging... pinch.gif

Yeah running that risk with a friend always always has the potential of looking like an utter tool. A NYT best selling author, inspiring father figure and all round dude icon? Even more so. I'm wondering if we should start a thread with all the people ADB needs to memorise at the weekend, with a brief summary of posts, you know, because.

On a more serious note, planning things out with the schedule that's been released is an absolute censored.gif because there's quite a few clashes in there wallbash.gif

Not quite that bad - my agendas going to be:

Saturday:

07:30 - Queue for new shiny things from the sale stand, maybe starting a little earlier depending on travel up on the Friday

10:15 - 10:30 - Opening Schedule

10:30 - 11:30 - Heretical HIstories

11:45 - 12:45 - "How to build a Legion" with Mark Bedford

13:45 - 14:45 - Extermination

15:00 - 16:00 - Book Signing (ADB) (I will get my Hi-5...)

16:15 - 17:10 - Forgeworld New Models (this might be a busy one...)

17:30 - 18:30 - Meet the Creators

Sunday:

10:00 - 11:00 - Conquest (another no-brainer)

11:15 - 12:15 - "How to build a Legion" with Mark Bedford pt2

12:30 - 13:30 - After Istvaan

14:30 - 15:15 - Shattered Legions

Not a lot of conflicts around in my eyes. Then I'm probably not going to be participating in the open gaming, which frees up some time. The seminars are manily where it's going to be, but the Building a Legion looks to be quite interesting.

Not a weird request at all. One that is fraught with peril for us though. Extend those scenarios a bit:

- #1 -

Katie: Who was that?

ADB: No idea.

Pete: <Inner monologue> He didn't recognise me because I said "Pete". If I'd said "Inquisitor Kravin from the Bolter and Chainsword" he'd have been all, "Oh yeah, great to meet you."</Inner monologue>

- #2 -

Katie: Who was that?

ADB: Someone I know from the B&C. No idea. Weirdo. Seemed to think I knew him.

Pete: <Inner monologue> He's never even noticed my posts...</Inner monologue> <Sobbing in the corner>

FYI, I helped write/edit/hunt contributors for Bolter and Chainsword Legio Imprint Vol 2. (shameless plug: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254540-legio-imprint-2-the-eye-of-terror/) which featured an interview with everyone's favourite Black Library author. wink.png

Also, I'll be trying to get autographs on two books because my friend who is a massive fan and wanted to come to the Weekender couldn't because his first child has just been born. Contrary to what a lot of occult writings would have you believe, it's apparently quite difficult to trade your firstborn for unholy power/unlimited gaming time and collecting budget. The least I can do is get him a reward for his contribution to the next generation of gamers.

I found a place called the Hogs Head which is ten minutes away. £30 for a single room including a full English breakfast. I'm stopping there on the Friday to save some cash.

Thanks. I'll get on the web/phone at lunchtime and try my luck. Fortunately the Premier Inn allows free cancellation so I can hold onto that for now as a backstop.

Thanks. I was going to call ForgeWorld and see if they had negotiated an event rate but didn't bother when I saw the Belfry was apparently full.

Hi, I'll be there too.

Nobody at the Park Hotel Nottingham ?

So, if I understand well, the BL openning is at 10 am, but on the ticket it's noted 9 am "open door", so if we want to buy some stuff easily we have to be there at 8 am ? (I want to buy a lot of books and don't miss any seminars !)

And someone now how the taxis work in Nottingham ? (I have to call them early saturday morning ?) Because Park Hotel to Belfry... no bus, no tram and certainly not at foot !

That's it. When I'm in the queue I'll tell everyone I can that there's nothing you like more than people going for a high five.
