Underwhelmed by Dorn

Alright brothers, let's all just take a quick step back and all take a deep breath, shall we? I think we can agree that while they have their uses, Breacher are indeed a somewhat mediocre unit with its own set of flaws. But that hardly stops a lot of us from taking them anyway. I for one have an entire 4000 points Iron Hands dream list based on 2 20 man Breaches and a 20 man Medusan Immortals squad which also contests as possibly one of the lowest tier special units.

Many of us love them but it doesn't change their issues. They are marginally tougher marines with the ability to take special weapons. They cannot gain the shooting devastation of the Tactical marines due to fury of the legion and even in close combat they fall behind tactical because even with the option to replace their bolters withe chainswords, they can never benefit from being doubly armed due to the rules of boarding shields. It's just a sad but true fact.

Now, yes the Warders are somewhat sub part in their rules and rather contradictory in their options, and even Dorn is not the highest tier Primarch, but this is also working in conjunction with their spectacular legion rules, quality wargear, and let's not forget the awesome that is Sigismund and his Templars.

The Imperial Fists are all about synergy, the bigger picture. So let's focus on how these units and characters can benefit the army as a whole, yes? :)

I don't see what the IF players are complaining about, yes, you got 1 terra-bad unit and your Primarch is unwieldy for some retarded reason but you have one of if not the best legion tactics in the game, 1 solid special unit and 2 amazing characters. I'd kill for my SOH tactics and units/SCs to be as good as the Fist's.
There is a lot of good in the new rules. Tactical squad's bolters are buffed. The army is stubborn in cover. Characters re roll to hit in challenges. Terminators can have real storm shields and can buy teleport transponders. Templars are good, and Sigismund will kill anyone other than a Primarch in a challenge. So the breaches are too expensive, and Dorn isn't top tier. It's just a couple low points in some pretty good legion rules.

Zone Mortalis is the simplest and easiest way to get started in the HH. Maybe its just me, but it feels like more people buy Zone Mortalis forces than AoD forces. Again, no qualitative source for that, just quantitative research from here and other places around the net. Most people (I've seen) do just enough to play ZM or they go whole hog and buy Apocalypse armies. Not very many in-between.

I think thats mostly due to the fact once you break 1500, you start to add units that really pile up, and then your at what most of us consider Apoc levels anyway, throw in a Primarch or LoW, and your there.
