Dreadnova
After reading all the material and rules from what I gather there is nothing preventing this. Is that correct? Moonstalker
I believe that is correct, but you should note that since Cybertheurgy is used in lieu of a shooting attack, the model must be eligible to make a shooting attack. So, no fire points = no Cybertheurgy. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290158-cybertheurgy-from-a-vehicle/#findComment-3664567 Share on other sites
Dreadnova
I thought that too, until it specified that you could not perform Cybertheurgy while in an assault or falling back (both times where you could not shoot anyhow) but it did not specify while not embarked in a vehicle (even a Landraider). Add this to the fact that the effect of a Cortex Controller works from a vehicle and you are essentially doing it through that and I think you could. So I think it means that you could not shoot and perform a power as well, but it is not considered a "shooting" attack itself, and thus does not need a fire point. Sort of like how a vehicle can turbo boost in the shooting phase instead of shooting, and this is also not considered a shooting attack. The Cortex Controller is more akin to Synapse range, while Cybertheurgy is essentially a psychic power. The Cortex Controller does not replace any of a model's actions, it just happens - like a Ld bonus for all models within 12 inches. You may also fire while falling back (all shots count as snapshots). The unit needs to be allowed to perform a shooting attack in the first place in order to give up its shooting attack to do something else. Page 78 of the BRB, "a single passenger can fire out of each Fire Point and the other transported models cannot fire." So: 1. In order to use Cybertheurgy, a model must give up its shooting attack. 2. A model in a vehicle with no fire points has no shooting attack to give up. 3. Cybertheurgy requires a fire point. Dreadnova
Inclined to agree with you after you explain it like that. Wish there was an easier way to protect my cheap magos dominus. Moonstalker
I think it's kind of silly that the Magos Dominus/Archmagos aren't IC's. You really ought to be able to attach them to a unit for at least some protection. As it is, I think you really have to go with the Archmagos if you want survivability, and probably shell out for the Machinator Array (for the +1 Toughness), and possibly the Abeyant as well for +1 wound and IWND. He's not cheap anymore after that, but at least then he's a T6 W4 3+/5++ character.
