Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
also fluff fans, according to the big rule book, Russ and Guilliman were in charge of the Scouring. the RG, IH, Sallie were crushed and I can imagine Terra cost the WS, IF and BA many marines...we, along with the Ultras, may have been the main strength of the Imperium during the Scouring. Only the Ultras had their empire to recruit from, while the Wolves only recruit from Fenris. This may have helped reduce our numbers substantially. Surreal Cruelty
There are also the Great Hunts, when the Son's of Russ go on a tear into the Eye of Terror, killing traitors and sacking daemon worlds. The first was almost immediately after Russ disappeared. Not to mention several times in the legion's history the wolves have been nearly wiped out, if not for the fact that one company always remains at the Fang. This does point the to the Wolves having rather extensive gene-seed stocks to be able to bounce back to more than chapter strength, when it often takes other chapters many centuries to recover from a near wipe-out. Without the accelerated growth techniques though, it takes a century for gene-seed to mature once implanted, so even the Wolves would have to tend it very carefully. Grey Mage
Interesting point... and with a legions worth of gene seed in storage, it would make it far more easy to bounce back, keeping them out of the high lords tender graces.
