Unreleased Vehicles / Armour from FW HH series

Recommended Posts

Out of some obsessive urge to compile obscure fluff, I've put together a list of vehicles mentioned in Forge World's 1st HH trilogy, and assembled them here for curious members. I've only skim-read some parts of Extermination, so there may well be stuff I've missed, feel free to mention any more not listed.

DREADNOUGHTS:

*Lucifer Pattern:

 - earlier design, before the Contemptor & Castraferrum (mark IV & V) patterns

 - possibly referencing early 'cat' design dreads?

TDA:

*Saturnine Pattern:

  - functionally equivalent to Indominatus & Tartaros patterns

  - possibly referencing MK I Terminators?

TANKS:

*Thunderstrike:

 - mentioned as a specialized tank, alongside the Cerberus

 - name could possibly suggest artillery / anti-aircraft vehicle

 - in a passage that mentions 'lesser', rhino-sized vehicles separately - suggests a larger chassis

*Hephaestus:

 - Sicaran is noted as partially derived from this pattern armoured vehicle

 - No other details known

*Scorpios?

  - mentioned alongside the Thunderstrike & Cerberus as a specialized vehicle

  - may well be a typo for the Scorpius Whirlwind

*Mastodon:

 - mentioned as having a 40 marine capacity, four tracks & featuring an energy shield

 - listed as super-heavy class

JETBIKES:

*Bullock Pattern:

 - design shown in Betrayal features only the single, underslung heavy weapon - not the additional quad-linked bolters in Sammael's

 - will probably get distinct rules given the Scimitar pattern has been given specific special rules in Extermination

AIRCRAFT:

*Stormbird:

  - transport capacity of 100 astartes

I thought Lucifer Pattern drop pods already exist in IA books.  If I remember correctly... it is the dreadnaught drop pod that gives shrouded to the dreadnaught while still embarked.

As for the Saturnine pattern TDA... my guess is the style of terminator suits used by the Grey Knights.  But that is solely base on the fact they are stationed on titan... which is over saturn and the fact that it does not look like indominatus armor to me.

Grey Knight armor is the Aegis Terminator Armor. Pretty much the same as Indomitus, but with extra layers of protection. The old artwork for the Saturnine seems to have MASSIVE shoulder pads. I mean, beyond the norm.

You know how Forge World started with the Thunderhawk? But now that super heavies are sorta common, I almost wish FW would make the Stormbird.

I mean, clearly nobody would be able to afford it but it would still be something to gape in awe at.

I agree with this statement.

Having the model for shizz and giggles would be fun. However that implies that you have 100 legionnaires to drop off in the first place...

Agreed with the Saturnine TDA, that old Exo-Armour definitely needs the FW treatment.  Since Iron Hands are getting their Proto-Indomitus TDA it would be nice to see a generic squad, like what Tyberos the Red Wake wears.

Legion MK V Armour would also be great.  It really needs the same treatment MKs II-Iv received with additional poses and more variety in the helmets and armour bits.  It doesn't really make sense that MK V should all be so uniform.

I assume Mk V and Vi armour will come once FW get a bit further into the Heresy.

I'd like to see more aircraft, the Harpy Interceptor mentioned in the Apocalypse Thunderhawk and Tempests formation would be nice, as would another one, mentioned as supporting the Luna Wolves in Betrayal, but I can't remember the name. Plus more Dreadnoughts and Saturnine TDA.

The Lucifer pattern is specifically mentioned as being a type of Dreadnought chassis - the pod you're thinking of is the Lucius pattern

I'm pretty sure that the Furibundus dreadnought was mentioned at one point, unless I'm imagining things.

I've found the Furbibundus and Deredo pattern dreads in very old GW material, although I didn't find either mentioned in the FW books - that said, I have a strange feeling there's a bit of fluff on Dreadnoughts I've missed

At the moment, I've only listed stuff that has been mentioned in the FW books, because they're what I consider the primary source of cannon, seeing as there have been instances in the past where they've altered the patterns & names of expected wargear.

I've also only listed gear available to all Legions - hence why the RG 'Whispercutter' drop pod isn't mentioned

The raven guard levitating platform transport things?

Whispercutters (or something like that) would be pretty cool although it would pretty much function as a drop pod that doesn't land or even stay in the area so I'm not sure what they would do with it.

MMMMMM Iron Warriors Praetor Launchers sound deliciously evil.

I just had a sadisticly funny image in my head of loading still-kicking and screaming Imperial Fist Praetors into artillery breaches and launching them over walls.

Well, something had to happen to those Imperial Fists left on the IV Legion warships when their own fleet quit the Battle of Phall devil.gif
