Shubniggurath's WIP

Hello brothers. I've been lurking on B&C for some time, but it's time for a more ''formal'' introduction. I've been playing 40k for quite a long time (had a Space Marines army in the 3rd and 4th ed., which I later sold). I started playing 40k again about a year ago with a few friends, and now we have a little but very nice and active gaming group here in Montreal, Qc., Canada. Apart the hobby, I'm also finishing a master's degree in medieval history (...which is why I haven't been able to paint as much as I want).

So, as I just said, I wasn't able to put a lot of time on my Dark Angels since I started buying stuff last may, but since I just finished my master's thesis, I thought that I could share with you a few pictures of my army. Feel free to leave comments (I'm always looking to improve myself, and I'm definitely not a pro-painter).

So first, here's my most recent job, a Predator I'm finishing (I usually weather my tanks a lot, so they look dirty and are covered in bullet marks, which I'll have to do tomorrow).

It's also all on this blog: http://thoseonceloyal40k.blogspot.ca/2014/04/dark-angel-predator-wip.html

Btw, feel free to look other stuff on it. A friend of mine started it a few days ago, he'll be putting a lot of this stuff (he's doing a Tanith army!).

Welcome to The Rock brother Shubniggurath.

The pred looks good although the red is a little too bright for me (it may just be the photo ;)). Looking forward to seeing it weathered.

Welcome to the rock Shubiggurath. It's always good to see new painters on the board.

The predator looks good to me a nice clean job. I look forward too seeing the weathering. I haven't been brave enough to try it yet myself . I keep meaning to but when it comes to it I can't bare messing up my finished model. I'll have to be brave one day.

Ia! Ia!

That's a handsome tank. Honestly I like the bright red on the lascannon tips, has kind of a retro feel when a lot of parts of guns were red for some reason (my army always rocks a few red bolters for old time's sake) but the red on the sponson casing does indeed look off. Not even a matter of too bright as just flat, maybe some edge highlights could do it some good.

Thank you for the good comment, brother (I see you're also a Lovecraft fan). Highlights are indeed needed on the lascannons casings, that is true. I'll do it as soon as possible (I need to buy some new paint, so it might have to wait a little bit!). Meanwhile, I'm doing some work on the weathering, mainly bullet marks right now. A lot of them, because this Predator always suffers a lot each time I put it on the table!

P.S.: As soon as I can figure a way to take better pictures, I'll upload some stuff.

So here's some other stuff I'm working on. It's the first half of a Ravenwing attack squad (the rest isn't started). I'll have a Land Raider, a few terminators squads and a Deathwing knights squad to show in the next days.

I quite proud of these, but not so much about that HUGE mold line, which I'll have to fix soon. It really shows in the last picture...

Again, you'll find everything I posted on this blog (http://thoseonceloyal40k.blogspot.ca/), plus some other stuff (a friend of mine added his Black Templars, which are way nicer than my stuff!).

Here's a Librarian I finished tonight. I built him with an extra bike I had laying around, with some other bits. Enjoy, and as always, I look forwards to your comments and feedback. I'm in the process if fixing the too bright red lascannons casings.

Your models look great :tu:. I like the nice detail of the book on the front wheelguard of the Librarian's bike. It's those small design considerations that give armies personalities.

Cheers

I

PS best of luck with the Masters Degree.

Nice work on the bikes. A suggestion for the future might be to use a few layers of liquid green stuff to fill in the join on the front of some of the bikes. Then file it smooth. As the bikes are black it doesn't show up too much either when you paint over it. :)

I echo Isiah's wish of good luck with your thesis. What's the subject, if I may ask?

I'm working on medieval history (my greatest passion). To be precise, it's on sustainable forestry in 15th century France (it looks a little bit dry, but it's actually a pretty cool topic laugh.png ). I gave it to the history department last week for final corrections, so I now have more time to work on my Dark Angels. Thanks for asking!

For the joint, I'll buy some liquid green stuff and try to fix it. It never really bothered me...until I took pictures of it, haha. I don't see it very much on the table, but on these picture, it's pretty much the only thing I can see.

Since I wasn't able to take part in my customary ''40k friday'', I decided to put the finishing touches to some models laying around, mainly a Rhino et the Dark Vengeance librarian. Also included in the picture is the first Dark Angels squad I painted in quite a few years.

I finally finished my first bike squad (I think I hate painting bikes...). I was also able to bring the finishing touches to my beloved Deathwing Knights, and I think they look pretty. I haven't been able to level up my photo skills, though...

Anyway, here are the Knights!

Also, the full bike squad and the librarian.

I will also be playing later today against my friend's Black Templars army, and we settled to do a all-painted game, of which we'll take picture and try to make a battle report. Should be nice. It's pretty much the first time since I started playing that I'll be able to field 2000 points of painted models!

So, I had a few days off, so I worked on my Contemptor Mortis for my ETL vow. I was also able to take better picture with my girlfriend's camera, so yeah, here it is, almost finished (probably some finishing touches to do, and its base has yet to be done).
