minigun762
Anyone tried this stuff? Wondering if it's worth considering. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290462-army-painter-pre-painted-basing-material/ Share on other sites
S.k.i.t.t.l.e
Maybe. But you'd still have to wash and highlight it, otherwise it'll look "out of scale" Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290462-army-painter-pre-painted-basing-material/#findComment-3671011 Share on other sites

Kaedes Nex
I think he's talking about how if you glue sand or rocks to your base and don't prime and paint them, they look really weird, because their scale is out of proportion, they look hyper realistic and photo-realistic, while your model looks like a 40k model. So it looks better to paint over it to make the base match the model as both will be painted and highlighted. I'm pretty familiar with AP but I don't know what pre-painted stuff you're talking about. Are you talking about their black and brown and other colored basing material? Because that stuff is just colored sand and flock, you can use it without painting it just like normal static grass or flock. They describe it as if you don't need to do anything with it besides glue. S.k.i.t.t.l.e
What I mean with "out of scale" is that if you don't put exaggerated shading and highlighting on it, it looks out of place next to your mini, which you will have painted to have exaggerated highlights etc. When things are as small as minis, (and the gravel etc on the base) obviously light hits it in real life, but due to the size the shadows and highlights are tiny as well, and don't look 'right', which is why we add extra shading and highlights, it gives the impression of size. I hope thats clear, I'm not very good at writing out whats in my head... hahahaha.
