Sgt.Sangha
Has anyone noticed that Horus Heresy books by Graham McNeill contain alot of Sanskrit and hindi words or places? It was just a unique finding I came across especially while reading vengeful spirit. Marshal Rohr
The Imperial Palace in centered on the Tibetan Plateau, so it makes sense. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290486-graham-mcneill-and-sanskrit/#findComment-3675538 Share on other sites
Scribe
He had a lot of neat things in Outcast Dead, one of his strengths I feel is the addition of the little 'weird' things. Its a shame some the issues with the book overwhelmed them. daveNYC
The Imperial Palace in centered on the Tibetan Plateau, so it makes sense. Except they don't speak Sanskrit in Tibet. They barely speak Sanskrit in India. Nothing wrong with that, I guess he just uses Sanskrit because it's a recognizable language and it's really really old. It's a looong time for languages to remain static (or exist) geologically. Kol Saresk
Or, like Latin, it underwent a renewal into something else while retaining enough qualities we can look at it and go "Sankrit" even though its probably known as "Bobrika" or "Colchisian". Maybe even "Poyorachian". Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290486-graham-mcneill-and-sanskrit/#findComment-3681723 Share on other sites
Olis
Indeed. Who knows, English itself as a language could (theoretically) die out and come back several times between now and the year 30,000 - the precedent is there with Latin, as you point out Kol. Why not any other language? ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290486-graham-mcneill-and-sanskrit/#findComment-3681737 Share on other sites

Sanskrit is the asian Latin it is a dead language, it is now nearly only used in Buddhism and Hinduism for their religious stuff Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290486-graham-mcneill-and-sanskrit/#findComment-3698180 Share on other sites

Emperors Immortals
Root aIndo-European words have been constructed from modern language families, perhaps given time well be using Neolithic as a formal language? It us something I love about McNeil, but the books become tediously ridiculous. Ha, just saw the Jesus spoke American +1 :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290486-graham-mcneill-and-sanskrit/#findComment-3699825 Share on other sites
