Loyalist Iron Warrior in Extermination

Recommended Posts

I think it makes sense, in this case the Iron Warriors who the Alpha Legion attacked, they were forces that had been separated from the core of the legion for a while and were returning to Paramar for resources, once there though the Alpha Legion preemptively attacked them, kind of forced the Iron Warriors hand to remain loyal.

I love the idea of loyalists in all the traitor legions. If I didn't any of them I would be doing 'loyalists', even Night Lords. I've ordered Extermination but don't have it yet so don't know the details. Given we have at least one Iron Warrior loyalist outpost in the fluff (Dantioch) and there isolated Iron Warrior garrisons all over the place I find it highly likely there would be others.

Traitors amongst loyalists, and loyalists amongst traitors. The beauty of the FW and BL books is that they turned the Heresy into shades of grey, and not a decisive line down the middle.

Loyalist Alpha Legion? Sure, why not? Conflicting orders, or a cell-commander who defied the Primarch's orders to serve the Imperium first.

Traitor Raven Guard? Why not? There are dark aspects to the sons of Corax, all they would need is a push in the right direction.

Go crazy, man. It's the Heresy, after all.

So much this. I mean, Kyr Vhalen's forces weren't even technically loyalist - they were never actually given a choice, just engaged by the Alpha Legion because they were an unpredictable external factor.

In terms of shades of grey, there's no fluff about IH traitors, just Legionaries who were so enraged & grief-stricken by the betrayal at Isstvan V & the Gorgon's death, they just started killing anyone, loyalist or traitor, going entirely renegade and turning their backs on any previous authority. That's cool.

There's a story where the Iron Hands who used forbidden to knowledge (Keys of Hel) to technically become Marine Zombies, although they stayed loyalist they ignored the orders of Rogal Dorn and left Imperial space.

Where can I find this story?

I've very little interest in Iron Hands usually, but that sounds awesome!

After I read Iron Within I wanted to do a Heresy army based on another Iron Warrior garrison that had become isolated from its legion and remains loyal to the Imperium. The Paramar incident reinforces my idea.

I had the same idea. Iron Within was fantastic and after that I really wanted to have a loyalist garrison force of Iron Warriors. But then Angel Exterminatus came along and brought a horrible portrayal of the IV Legion with it. After that book i dropped any idea about a IV Legion force. But after reading about Paramar in Extermination I feel my hopes restored, and now I can still see it happen at some point.

In all honesty, I really enjoyed Angel Exterminatus, an insight into a Primarch I knew little about, and finding out he was probably the smartest of all the Primarchs on a scientific/mathematical level. Made me really like Pert. But the Extermination fluff for the Iron Warriors actually turned me off them from a Horus Heresy or Loyalist point of view.

The fluff written in HH: Extermination, felt like they were showing that their methodology in the 40K universe, which is well known, was originated in the Heresy, and I don't know I was sort of disappointed at that, and kinda hoped that it was their descent into traitorship and chaos which turned them into totally unforgiving task masters that see humans as a resource to expend.
I mean I expected a little harsh stone-faced-ness from the HH Iron Warriors but felt it was laid on a bit thick honestly.

Just my view
