Blood angel destroyers

So how would you do this?

 

I have an idea on it;

My fluff idea is rad phased BA suffering from the red thirst replacing limbs with bionics in battle and charging in rad munitions blazing

 

Using iron hand MKIII bods and making the armour heavy

Honestly, I would go full on with the more Regal aspects of the Angelic Host. When the Egyptians would not head the warning of Moses, the Hebrew God cast swarms of locusts and great plague upon the people, even that of Death itself to strike down each first born son who did not bare the Red  'X', the sign of Fidelity.

 

Rather than making them these raging brutish crazed warriors, display Virtue in a different form. The Virtue of Wisdom, well-tempered and morose, knowing what must be done in times of dire strife to bring the unfortunate lost souls back into the light. Flesh may decay and the Earth may burn, but the lesson will never be forgotten. Even perhaps use their armour as a precursor to that of the Death Company, a grave forshadowing of what will come to pass.

Are they all of the Fifth Coy? If so, maybe you could balance the Flesh Tearer aspect with that of Noctus suggestion. Angelic countenance (Sang Guard deathmasks, perhaps), but with flayed skin and flaying knives as part of their gear.

The use of the Iron Hands bodies would be acceptable if done right. Wisdom is the one virtue that cannot be taught, but only obtained through time and experience. That being said, if we went with that idea, those of the Legion's Destroyers would be of the most veteran warriors, those that have seen the great terrors beyond the stars and lived to tell of it.They bear ancient technology of destruction, but it is done so only with Hope in their hearts for a better tomorrow. Honestly, I'd avoid the Death Masks. Would recommend you save those for the Sanguinary Guard who feel more deserving of that. Keep their armour simple and humble, so I'd recommend going with Iron Hands bodies with the standard Mk IV heads. I love those helmets for their simplicity.

 

Aaaand now I suddenly have thoughts of what a Blood Angel force would be like... Dammit.

I'm thinking some Native American heads with them aswell maybe a mix of mkiv and the plain face MKIII breacher helms.

 

Thinking destroyer rad launcher but not sure how to do the pistols just checked the hand meltas and I'm not so sure now.

Personally, I can't stand the two pistol thing. Its all fine and dandy on the Moritat, but I just can't comprehend the idea of an entire squad based around carrying only two pistols... Its just... No.

 

So I've thought about it for a while and figured a few ways for representing the two pistols. One was sort of a Bolter SMG version, smaller and more compact with shorter range but a faster discharge rate. There's also the idea of giving them essentially proto-storm bolters. I mean it is two shots and is assault, but just has a shorter range.

 

If you want to be real classy though, why not convert it so both Bolt Pistols are mounted to their wrists, allowing them to wield their chainswords with two hands like badasses.

This is just a fluff question, but would Death masks even be a thing before and/or during the Heresy? Or was this something they began after the death of Sanguinius?

Pretty sure the Death Masks are modelled on the face of Sanguinius, because y'know the name is pretty self-explanatory, so I doubt the masks would have been referred to as such if they were in use at the time.

I'm loving the idea that Blood Angel Destroyers are in fact a kind of proto-Death Company, before the death of the Primarch and the emergence of the Black Rage. Can't wait to see what you come out with, Jasp!

I'm more with Noctus here, give Destroyers a twist and make them a 'necessary good' squad. You can have some visual clues pointing to the Death Company - dark gray armour (from the corrosive effects of their ammo), but I'd make them as pristine as possible otherwise, including loincloths, censors, etc.

 

The only thing I'm in disagreement with is the look of the armour. I think decoration is in order but that's up to you to choose them perform either a solemn or a ritual duty.

It was mentioned in the prologue of Fear to Tread that the Sanguinary Guard had death masks, but they were in the image of fallen Blood Angels, not Sanguinius himself. So they're using them at this time. Must be a tradition from Baal.

I had an idea similar to what Noctis described a while back. Basically Sanguinius only deploys destroyers on xenos/mutant humans and calls them 'Lamenters', I had a rough concept sketch a while back, I'll see if I can find it.

Anvil Industry actually makes some decent carbine weapons that could be used to represent two pistols. I totally agree that two pistols is just...no.

Destroyers are ment to be ultra badass, so i would expect lots of big guns.
