Unbound space wolves?

So sitting here this morning, drinking coffee and reading the B&C, I was thinking about this Unbound topic and it's proposed changes to the game. I was thinking about the changes it proposes to the game. But I was really thinking about the way it impacted the game as a whole, not just how it effected the Space Wolves. Let me explain.

I used to play Magic the Gathering ALL the time, until recently, when I realized that I could not afford both. SO I put magic down after 14 long years with it. It was hard. Real hard. But I am so much more pleased with 40K than I would and could be in my adult life with magic.

SO within the game of magic there are rules to how you play the game that set the basic structure to the game, just like any. other. game. I know, get on with it... So within the world/game of magic there are certain game type, player type and of course styles. But it was mostly the game type that I found some kind of clarity within. When I played magic, my entire career of it, I was someone who sat down for the social interaction of the game. For the fun of it. A 'tabletop' or casual player. When related to 40K, a fluff player.

So while there is this micro-cosmos of players, the company needs to make money, so there are other kinds of magic you can play. Standard is the big one. It is a format in which you can only build your deck (army list) from the most current sets of cards for a total of 6 mini sets of different cards allowed to be used. Once a new set is released, it is introduced into the rotation and the oldest set of cards is dropped. Sound familiar??!! So around that idea the company makes its money to keep the game moving.

Between these 2 game types breed two (mostly) different player types. Just like in 40K. Those of you who play for and with the purpose of, winning. And those of you who conjure narratives and build hero's. Some times, most of the time?? you get along with the common wise crack or behind the back jab. SOUND FAMILIAR??!!

SO it hit me, that this could be GW's keen observation of another worldwide phenomenon and creating a game within a game. You can play the battle hardened lists or competitive 40K. Or you can play unbound and play what ever you want. This way, you can go to your FLGS and kick everyone's ass out the window, or you can go to Prospero and replay that infamous battle.

So after thinking along these lines, I actually have a tug of hope that GW is doing something good with this idea.

End of Line

LMAO Rune_Priest Go see my thread....was going to post it here but it turned into a page long rant and didn't want to take over the thread. Haha cheers brother we think alike.

EDIT: Brother would you mind if I took your post just now and pasted it into my thread?

I hope that you are correct.  I have to say though change is scary in a game that we have all invested hundreds or thousands of dollars in.  No one knows how it is going to play out. But the sky isn't falling until the rulebook is released and we can see how everything fits together.

Call me weird for it, but I just hope unbound armies can and will be used for just those nice little gems of armies that are not possible now, yet as fluffy as can be (even if not completely supported by the rules).

For us Space-Viking loving folks, I would enjoy seeing the option to once again include the Leman Russ battle tank in a Space Wolf army. Not through allies, forcing me to take an entire squadron and some other troops. Just like that. A couple of Space Wolves with a battle tank that has its main form named after our primarch. Even with the BS3 that the usual, average, Astra Militarum vehicles have.
