Feathers

Hello gents, as I'm new to ETL and WH40K I had a question..(yes again)

What is a good method to paint feathers? I've run across a lot of them painting the dark vengeance death wing terminators for ETL. The only other ones I've painted we're on Balthasar and those didn't turn out so great.

Thanks all!

Paint them gray first, then go over them with white scars, wash with a bright bright blue or a very light wash of nuln oil, highlight the white, then add some abbadon black to the very edge of the wearer trim.

Failing that just paint them in Balthazar gold. Copper always go well with the native colors of dark angels

I simply paint everything white, several thing layers, then I use Vallejo blue ink thinned with water 1:2 ratio and paint it carefully with it and let it dry in horizontal position. It usually makes quite nice effect.

thanks, Ill try both see what I like, then adjust as I see fit!

Appreciate the responses, how about a follow up?  The feathers on the helm of CPT Balthasar did not turn out well at all on my first attempt.  tips?  Termie sgt has similar ones as well, but I think his will be much easier
