The Second Democles Crusade / ETL III

Recommended Posts

So for this year's ETL I decided to revive my Templars project. The Black Templars were my first army ever, but they've probably received the least attention. So over the next coming months I plan on submitting WiP and completion pics for the ETL, as well as sprinkling in some of my previously paint Templars.

As to the theme of this army I originally came up with it back in 5th editions after reading the White Scars novel set in the first Democles crusade. At that point the Black Templars only played a minor role, but it never sat right with me that they would completely abandon the crusade. So I figured after the tyranic wars in the ultramar sector were handled fthat the Black Templars who were originally part of the Democles crusade would return. Coming to terms with how big of a threat the Tau Expansion really is it would make sense that the Templars would bring a much bigger force that could easily spearhead the crusade. Also, like all other space marines the cannibalism exhibited by the main Tau guerrilla forces was so heretical and alien to the extreme that the complete genocide of the Kroot race is enough reason alone to return the Democles Gulf. Further more, very few other Space Marine Chapters share in the disgust towards the Tau's long range warfare and discontent for close combat more then that Black Templars.

Simply put, the Democles Crusade is about more then just defending the Imperium of Mankind. Its about the absolute, indiscriminate annihilation of an entire sector of species for their vile practices and honorless way of life.

Here's a picture of some of the complete/semi completed models I dug out of my boxes:

And here's my first ETL III Vow

Given the rapid evolution and sophistication of Tau long range weaponry it was proposed that Neophytes with an aptitude for marksmanship would adopt traditional Astartes roles as sniper and  reconnaissance squads. This would both help the Templars target enemy artillery spotters, as well as keep Neophytes out of the punishing tau riffle fire. Given that the standard Astartes power armor already has enough issues withstanding Tau weaponry, it would be best for the future of the chapter if some neophytes were reserved from the frontlines and given positions that would better suite their transition into heavy weapons and counter vehicle roles.
