Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
The Talon of Fenris focuses on his brethren across the ice, watching the ebb and flow of combat. The steel of the Aett seems to be making it's mark known on the denizens of the deep black, and he is please to see Russ and the All-Father have chosen this day to watch over his younger brothers and sisters. A cry over the vox erupts suddenly, jarring his aim and causing his targeting matrix to lose its scent. One of his missiles fly true, causing the kraken to explode messily across the ice. With a jerk, he turns to see a young wolf fall before a kraken, and the laughter so prevalant before turns ugly. As the assembled packs mood turns black, a veteran Wolf leaps into the mess of Wolf and kraken to revive his brother. In a act worthy of saga, the lone Wolf deflects the krakens attacks long enough to revive his wounded brother. The tension almost seems to ease, but the undercurrent of true violence remains. Its a blow waiting to fall, and Kieran does not relish when it does. "Oh mighty Talon, you seemed to miss your mark." comes mockingly across the pack vox channel. "Luckily the All-Father decided you needed two chances to finish the job" Crazywolf finishes with a laugh. Rune Priest Jbickb
I am not the spokesman but I am inclined to melta D3 and charge it if it lives. Gotta keep us from getting flanked. I think the best course for the others would be to change in and help out ace. Though I must say from the wording it sounds like Ace killed the kraken with his maul, but at the end MaveriK says he's locked in combat so I'm a bit confused. What do my Brothers think of this? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Another kraken dissolves before the power of the meltagun, solbjorg. Jbickb growls with delight, but that growl quickly shifts to a howl of rage as Sigvard falls and Ace is injured by the raging sea beast. The wolf is scratching at his mind ever harder now. "You shall be avenged my brother" he says to himself as he lowers his meltagun at yet another beast Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290742-the-gauntlet%C2%B2/page/6/#findComment-3692899 Share on other sites
Brother Crazywolf
If it takes two shots from a heavy flamer to take one down I will give WLK the benefit of having to take multiple shots with krak missiles. He just has better range. All is equal in the end. Ace Debonair
Oh, wow. I got one! I was expecting to have to write about getting taken out in the first round I saw combat. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ace and Sigvard rushed the kraken. Though their shots had been on target, the thick scales of the beast deflected the worst of the damage. The kraken's ability to tolerate pain could not be underestimated - Ace had seen what effort it had taken Sigvard to bring down the first one. The kraken thrashed around furiously as the two marines leapt into the fray with it. Ace's plan to stun the beast went right out of the window as one of the thick tentacles caught his leg and knocked him sprawling. A second tentacle crashed down across Ace's midsection, crushing part of his armour and drawing blood. Sigvard, for his part, went right for the head, his axe held high for the killing strike. The kraken, with unearthly quickness, lunged forward, butting Sigvard to the floor, and began whipping at him with it's tentacles. Ace rolled to his feet, gathered his senses and moved in once again. Ducking under the striking limbs, Ace crashed his mace into the creature's head, just above the eye socket. The kraken roared with pain and rage - the force of the blow had lodged the mace in the kraken's head. It reared up, knocking Ace to the floor, leaving the mace stuck in the wound. I'm not done yet, Ace thought to himself. Emperor, give me strength. As the beast moved to attack once more, Ace rolled under it's swing, clambered up the back of the creature in the blink of an eye, and wrenched his mace free. With the fury, speed, and hatred only a Space Marine can bring to bear, he brought the mace down a second time on the open wound. This time the damage to it's skull was much more severe - the kraken gave a tremendous, shuddering cry and fell dead, pitching Ace forward onto the ice. The White Hawk stumbled to his feet, elated at his victory, but knowing the battle was far from over. The death-cry of the kraken had alerted more of the beasts, moving in on the pack's west flank, away from the other groups of Space Wolves along the ridge. On the one hand, Ace thought, that should make things easier for the other packs. On the other hand, I'm in so much trouble. "Sigvard's down," came the voice of Sven over the vox. "Ace, can you still fight?" "Affirmative. I'll get him back behind the rest of us." Ace replied, trying to sound more confident than he felt. He knelt alongside the wounded wolf, whose breathing was laboured and slow. "A worthy... kill... brother." Sigvard grinned at him. "We'll make... a wolf... out of you... yet." Before Ace could reply, a nearby sound of splintering ice caused him to turn around. Another kraken was approaching him, and quickly. Trying his best to clear his head and ignore his wounds, Ace turned to face the fresh monster and raised his mace. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The other packs seem to be doing well enough - keep it up, brothers (and sisters of course)! Jbickb - the one I'm locked in battle with is another kraken, by the looks of things. I'm guessing if I'm locked in combat my only option is to hold ground for as long as I can and buy everyone else some time. I'm just hoping I can make a fight of it! This is looking like a bad situation, lads. The best advice I can give is focus our attacks and try to bring down a couple of the beasts quickly so we can at least get the numbers on our side. Leif Bearclaw
Well, it seems to me we have three potential option here, the 'safe', the risky and the very risky. Safe: I charge in to help Ace (I assume I can't shoot it first because it's locked in combat), jbickb meltas D3 then charges it if it lives, and sven either come with me or charges D3 too. This plan hopefully keeps as much of the pack intact as possible, almost definitely kills 1 kraken and hopefully kills 2. Risky: I still help Ace, as we're the one's without the chance of inflicting ID on the Kraken. Jbickb meltas then charges D3. Sven flames then charges C0. This should kill a couple, 3 if we're lucky, separates the pack a bit, but keeps Ace supported, as he's the weakest. Very Risky: We leave Ace to fight his Kraken on his own. I shoot and charge B1. Sven shoots and charges C0 Jbickb shoots and charges D3. Best case, we wipe the Kraken on our side of the board, but this does leave the pack strung out and exposed, and we may well lose Ace, or any of us. I'd lean towards 'Risky' myself, but I'll let the pack decide. Or if you have any better ideas? Sigvard
The wolves howled in the distance long and sorrowfully. He smiled at the sound and though foolish felt like the noise was for him. What was more foolish was charging into battle with the second of those Kraken whilst sporting wounds from his ordeal with the first. He had let his pack brother down and left him fighting the beast alone. The thought enraged him and he tried to pull himself to his feet, yet his legs would not obey him. The wounds from Kraken were beyond his body's ability to deal with. He watched from the snow, his blood all around him as his pack-brother fought witth he Kraken beast, he was not Fenrisian but by the Allfather he fought like one. As his vision began to fade his hand scrambled around in the snow, he thought his weapon lost and great sadness filled his mind, the relief was immediate as his fingers found the ancient axe and brought it to his chest. The sky darkened further and he knew his time had come his thoughts were of the howling wolves, of the iron sky, of Fenris.Edit - Fight on brothers and sisters! Rune Priest Jbickb
I agree with plan risky, there should be enough ap 1 and 2 high strength wounds to pull that off. Hopefully. Don't forget your daily sacrifice to the dice gods. Now I see how ace is locked in combat. Bummer. Ace Debonair
I'll approve the 'risky' option, too, Leif. It keeps our attacks fairly focused so we should have a chance of mopping up some kraken before they overwhelm us, and of course I'm always happy to have backup. At this point my mission is to keep this one off Jbickb, and if I last beyond this round then that's just a cheeky bonus. Ace Debonair
The risky route it is then, brothers. May the Emperor guide your path! mactire
Mactire looks up to see his pack brother standing over him "up claw your fight is not done, aid your sister, wipe this scum from our shore's". The blood claw struggles to his feet, the blessed gifts of the wolf priests keeping his torn body together, all ready he can feel the pain of the healing kick in. He see's Rylanor leap into combat, the shame of his near surrender to Morkai's gate hurting more than any wound the beast's had made, with a roar he fires his pistol in the spawn on C7 and staggers in to aid Fytharin slay it with what little strength he has remaining. Reede
I will make my move to C6 and Unleash Promethium on C5. (I believe the plan is currently for Dizzy to Melta B7) If the Kraken on B7 is not insta-deathed, I shall charge it with Dizzy. If it does die, I'll charge C5 ******* Reede begins to worry when he can't make out Mactire in the fight, but soon a large Howl let's his brother know that the young wolf is still fighting with a ferocity what would put a grin on Russ' face. He makes his way past them, letting them tear the beast to pieces. Standing back to back with Dizzy he lets one more bout of flame erupt from his weapon before finally succumbing to the urge of the murder-make. Still somewhat aware of himself he keeps an eye on his Brother Marine, knowing that if the Melta does not destroy the beast he'll rip it apart, limb from bloody limb, with his bare hands. One way or another, it was time to let the beast out.
