So I know that we had a bunch of survivors of Istvaan V. But what about Istvaan III? Other than Tarik or however you spell his name. If its not recorded is it possible or theoritical as the blue marines like to say?

Speaking of those other Death Guard who went with Garro, whatever happened to them? I know Apothecary Voyen joined...some sort of medical research department (Biologos?) , but what about the others?

 

Regarding other survivors, I think the first FW book, Betrayal, lists a Death Guard who stayed loyal and survived, but don't quote me on that as I don't have the book in front of me...

He survives. He just would not die. There's small out takes written from his voice. He's loyalist death guard obviously. Theyre some of my favourite excerpts from betrayal. Go back and read them. They're worth it.

I read his blurb as if he survived the virus bombing atrocity of istvaan III but died in the fighting after. Anyone got a line saying he survived the whole debacle?

Looking at the entry right now:

 

'Despite all odds, Morturg survived the atrocity of Isstvan III and he and the few remnants of the slaughtered Loyalists he had gathered to him would live to revenge themselves against their former brothers.'

 

It sounds pretty conclusive to me.

Well most of the boxed stories in Betrayal are from Mortaug's testimony after he survived Istvaan III.

Just reading Betrayal now, and the first part of the death of Isstvan III it says on page 38:

"- Crysos Morturg, Black Shield

 - Surivivor of the Atrocity at Isstvan III"

 

So, yeah, I guess he survived.

I fully understand that. I wasn't saying "Don't trust the Betrayal quote." I was referring to that part you had pulled from wikia about him going to the Lords of Terra. Mostly because 1.)its the first I've heard of it and 2.)its Wikia.

Reread the blurbs and I'm inclined to believe Morturg was a survivor.

 

Nothing expressly says so but p.47/54 blurb is 'from the testimony of Crysos Morturg' and P.49 saying 'made up from the fragmentary accounts of the few Loyalists survivors given in testimony to the Council of Terra' suggests he did.

There's also the final line on p.58 'Isstvan III was finally dead, and my Legion buried with it, but the hate remained'

I would think that would be some survivors, but at a massively smaller scale then Istvaan V due to the repeated bombing and intent to slaughter, not to mention the traitors almost utter control of space.

I don't think anything could prevent survivors of Istvaan III from existing, but the fact of limited transportation off-world would certainly make them..... Rare.
