Valkyrion
My mind may be playing tricks on me, but I'm sure I once read somewhere (maybe 2nd ed codex) that the lightning on night lords armour is actually a manifestation rather than decoration. Have I made that up? I can't recall the lightning effect ever being mentioned in a HH novel, yet most pictures show them with the lightning. Daemon2027
In Massacre on page 103 it says that the lightening is generated by a sub surface arco projectors, which means it can probably be turned off so they don't look like one of those electro balls that flow to where you touch. It should also mean that it moves around the armour, so it is more then a decoration. I liked the picture in one of the chaos codex where the lightening looked to be dancing over the night lord, like he was surrounded by it but sub surface arco projectors sounds a lot more sensible! Kol Saresk
Originally, the lightning was painted. If you read Lord of the Night and anything written by A D-B, you will see painted lightning. In the 4th Edition Chaos Codex, the idea of "warp lightning" was introduced. In Massacre, the idea of miniature arc-generators that created artificial lightning across the armor was introduced. All three are considered valid depictions, although the warp lightning is 1.)40K only and 2.)usually passed over in favor of paint since the arc-generators are only a year old and not the most common knowledge.
