ElectricPaladin
It seems like 30k is going to be catching on at my FLGS. Two dudes are talking about getting armies already. Elsewhere, at my other 30k force, three guys already have 30k armies. Thus it begins. Anyway, I'm thinking about jumping on the bandwagon. The question is, which kind? Fluff-wise, I like Blood Angels, I like good guys (though I can also enjoy doomed heroes), and I prefer mobile and dynamic armies (and hate gunlines). At the moment, I'm leaning towards... Salamanders: definitely heroic, and green is my favorite color, plus all those flamers and meltas will be awesome in the Zone Mortalis battles we're likely to start with. Thousand Sons: tragic heroes, fatally undone by powers beyond their comprehension. Blood Angels: I already play a Blood Angels successor, so why not continue in that trend? Mechanicus: yeah cyborg weirdos. Also, they're not Space Marines. So, what do you think I'd like? Any suggestions? Dolchiate Remembrancer
I was also considering those options and as a fellow BA player I can vouch for wanting to start a 30K BA force. Other desires were: Imperial Fists, Salamanders or maybe a loyalist version of one of the traitor legions. Athrawes
I'd throw my vote in for blood angels. They are of course the numinous host , however I also feel like they are the easier force to represent with a standard legion list. Since neither the thousand sons or blood angles have their books yet (but soon). Besides, it doesn't get much more tragic than sanguinius sacrificing himself for the emperor! Pyromancer
I would say BA, and it seems like you may have made up your mind already, although if you like those other things you could easily add them in as allies. A beaten up Sallies squad from Istvaan, a squad of Castellax or Thalaxii in support and a squad of TS that were not on Prospero during the battle, and that the BA rescued ( something I will be adding onto my IW) Good luck either way, part of the ship, part of the crew! Daddywarcrimes
Go with Blood Angels. Take a Praetor for the Angel's Wrath Rite of War, load your Tactical Squads into Stormeagles, grab a bunch of Assault Squads, and go to town. Imren
go with emperors children, gives you an excuse to paint a purple/violet army! Deep down inside, you prefer purple before green! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290817-picking-a-30k-force-maybe/#findComment-3679815 Share on other sites
Ordo Machinum
I was in a similar quandary as my Dark Angels haven't been printed up in the HH books yet. To make the most of playing as any legion, I am using the straight forward Crusading Army list stuff. However, they are "counts-as" Legion Space Marines. I am painting them as a Cybernetic/Mechanicum Project: Automatus Astartes (robot marines!). If I want to use Legion specific stuff, I'll add them under the same Mech colours. Shuggnuggath
May be a long wait for Blood Angels, what about Raven Guard? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290817-picking-a-30k-force-maybe/#findComment-3679828 Share on other sites
ElectricPaladin
I gotta tell you... Raven Guard I might enjoy. Painting black is a huge challenge, though... Shuggnuggath
Maybe try some test models and then decide. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290817-picking-a-30k-force-maybe/#findComment-3679854 Share on other sites
Adeptus-Alaska
out of those choices, I would say Sallies or Mechanincum. sallies are the tragic good guys......personified. you just can't beet em. and Horus tried! AdMech, could be a really cool army. my only issue with them is the release pace. slower than usual for FW. and the AdMech has Titans........jus' sayin Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290817-picking-a-30k-force-maybe/#findComment-3679855 Share on other sites
Shuggnuggath
Sallies are not very speedy, -1 run and no init bonus on sweeping advance. Raven infantry get fleet and infiltrate. Seems the more mobile of the two to me. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290817-picking-a-30k-force-maybe/#findComment-3679865 Share on other sites
Daemon2027
If your Blood Angels at heart you might be best going there, or you might find your self wanting to change when the blood angels come out. It doesn't matter there are not specific rules, you can tailor your force later. What matters is your heart is in the army. Just to say, easy way to paint black. Grey base coat, 3 washes of null oil. You can either leave it at that or highlight ( and the best bits that need highlighting are still grey). If you want a more metallic black, dry brush a metal colour between washes, and add some gloss varnish to the last wash. Relict
I would say go for something new. Therefore go with a Mechanicum army. Although they are only being slowly released, they have some awesome models and rules. Fluff-wise, you can also justify taking either side - since Mars itself was split.
