Gaymer1991
Ok, so I am literally brand new to 40k as a living world and table top (I played the first dawn of war slot when it first came out, but didn't get into fluff or anything.). And am really loving it. But I work a lot and so I don't want to take forever reading books, hunting down web pages, and trying to sift through everything to find the info that is important to know to properly understand and play the fluff side of my knights. So would anyone mind posting/PMing all the important stuff to KNOW that isn't in the latest codex? Dread
Well, as of May 24th, the NEW rules are coming out. My best advice at this point would be to wait to learn the rules when they arrive. There is really no telling what they, GW, has in store for us this time. Rumors are flying and sneaks are out in White Dwarf. Welcome to the forums and the game as well as the Grey Knights are a great army to play. Gentlemanloser
Don't touch Crowe, Venerable Dreads, the Eversor, Culuxes and Calidus Assassins. The Psilencer is never worth it. Gentlemanloser
For fluff stuff, the First Ben Counter Grey Knight book is great, the second is ok. And the third. Is a Conan story and nothing really to do with the GK... There are some nice origin stories coming out through the Horus Heresy books. And there are a couple of newer books with the GK in which are great. There are some *old* articles on the GK, which show them in a very Dark Grey / Black colour scheme. But our Fluff got *radically* changed in the new Codex. We used to be the Military arm of the Ordo Maleus (one brance of three main Inquisitions), now we are the Military arm for the entire Inquisition. And the Deathwatch seem to have been forgotten. Draigo is a very new big of fluff and is quite, controversial. As is the Khornite Knights story (where the GK slay pure SoB who proove to be immune to Khornes corruption, so they can bathe in thier blood to make sure they remain incorruptable. While being already Incorruptable...). Both are mostly mocked and ignored by Grey Knight players (and 40k players in general). Mahoo
For the fluff side of things check out Lexicanum http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Main_Page#.U2yVxii2xe0 All the background you need to know on one site. As for playing, I'm sure a few players will have posted their lists on here and discussed how to use them, have a look through the forum and see what you can find out. Personally I'd suggest getting a couple of beginner games out of the way, either down at your local GW or local gaming store. Get the basics down, movement, how shooting works and some of the essential ground rules, sure the rules may change in a few weeks but getting the basics locked down will be a benefit for you. As your brand new to the hobby, remember that an awesomely painted, competitive gaming army isn't going to happen over night. Your going to make mistakes, learn from them, take advice on board and develop your skills. Theirs no greater pleasure in this hobby than watching your army grow and comparing your first, sloppy model to the crisp, clean, well painted model you just finished. Most importantly however, welcome to the hobby and welcome to the B&C!
