Hail Brothers, Sons of Dorn and Exemplars of ZEAL

Trying to drum up some support for ETL III Campaign and thought that we could have a 'build and paint a Cypher' event. I know that we are now separate and its not really like you have trouble motivating each other, But since we started as one team I think it will be good to share anything that helps to motivate. I know the Templars helped get our arms race up and running.

But why Yak? Why do you keep pestering us you stealthy little halfwit?

Good Question my friends good question. Well....

  • ETL is the B&C's most prestigious painting competition, promoting inter forum Brotherhood like no other.
  • Everybody loves to beat on the Dark Angels
  • The idea behind ETL is to HELP you get YOUR army painted. (Boo grey plastic, Boo!)
  • Deadlines work, lets all face it, we wouldn't do anything in work without them, and it works for painting too.
  • Good fun (I know, I know what has 40k got to do with fun...)
  • Inspires us to make and paint great models (well that's just stupid Yak, who wants great bloody models?)
  • Everybody loves to beat on the Dark Angels (have I said that already?)
  • Participation is key, If you paint one man then you paint one man, you have still contributed.
  • Get feedback, tips and perspiration (or something like that)
  • Everybody loves to beat on the Dark Angels (I know, I know but I like saying it!)
So why the hell paint Cypher you sneaky little fool?

Ooh your full of questions today aren't you. Well....

  • He is available to us
  • He is fun to use
  • Dark Angels hate him
  • Iconic 40k figure, everyone should have one (I am starting to feel like a GW salesman)
  • Can be made from bits in our bits box
  • Costs 190 pts (everybody paints one man, do the maths)
  • Counts as options eg A witch for you to hunt!, Deathwatch Black Shield.
  • Its cool to see what ideas people come up with.
  • No need to purchase the Data slate (if you don't want to) he can just be a little shelf guarder, or display piece.
  • Dark Angels really hate him.
Actually that sounds like something that might interest me. What should I do?

Nothing!

You don't have to do anything, just close your eyes and count to 3 and

one will appear fully painted and converted in front of your eyes.

OK that's not true, no pain no gain and all that..

Remember this is to help motivate people to join in the ETL and get themselves known on the forums

Here is some inspiration.....

Yak, you had me at: Let's paint a Cypher to beat the DA  :D

Despite your highly blasphemous pic* of that converted Cypher I will make a conversion as well as I actually have a decent amount of DA bitz. Also in case you didn't know the BT community here has unanimously decided that we will continue to use the AoD stratigium not only to support our former brothers in arms but because it's been quite a lot of fun ;)

*Am I the only one who noticed that is a converted Emperor's Champion model? eek.gif

Nope, you're not the only one!

So haven't seen many new posts in this. Anyone done any work on converting a Cypher(assuming you aren't buying the model)?  I personally don't care for the official model so I'm making my own.

I wanted him to look like similar to his description the BT codex: ancient black armor, little or no markings and generally mysterious looking. So with that in mind I've a question for you guys. Trying to decide on what to put on his backpack.  I found this cool backpack with a sword handle in the top going through a skull and wanted to put some kind of symbol on the back(as what was there I had started to shave off a while back and it doesn't look good without something). I converted it to have the rest of the sword come out the bottom to represent the sword he has but never draws.

So here are the things I came up with.

Broken DA symbol. Through age or combat it has started falling apart, could also represent the fallen nature of his character.

Or this symbol.  This would be keeping the theme as he has this symbol on his left shoulder pad. (the hooded skull)

Follow up question, what do you suggest for his right shoulder? plain? DA symbol? battle damaged?

Quick mock-up for my cypher:

I kinda want him to look like he could be undercover in my crusade, while keeping as old-school a look a possible. May have to try green-stuffing a hood though...
