ETL Motivational Unit Presents 'Pimp my Cypher' Templar Boy

NB: Pre-heresy dark angels dressed in black - making them almost as snappy as us. Means that you can easily do a black power-armour and cloth tabard, making him fit nicely into a templar squad. My guy will have a magnetised plasma pistol arm with dark angel shoulder pad and a non-chapter-specific studded shoulder on the other - this way I can simply trade the plasma arm for a templar shoulder and sword and he makes a nice Castellan/sword brother. ;)

Quick mock-up for my cypher:

I kinda want him to look like he could be undercover in my crusade, while keeping as old-school a look a possible. May have to try green-stuffing a hood though...

Well if you want to keep him as old school as possible, if you haven't glued that head on yet, I would suggest a swap. That is a Mk VI Corvus helm which wasn't invented until well after the Heresy.  If you want a helmeted head I'd suggest the Mk IV Maximus helm that is on the BT sprue seen here http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Ophiuchus/SM%20Armour%20Guide/black_templars_head_4_large.jpg

I myself am going with a hooded DA flesh head I had laying around.

Question, are we doing Cypher up in our own chapter colours or in the DA colours?

I'm doing mine in black as that was the pre-heresy color of the DA. Mine will have a DA emblem on one pad as well. I decided to model mine more after the description of him in our old dex than the newer description of him in green and robes.

Actually, MkVI was around during the Heresy. In Deliverance Lost, just after the Massacre, when the Raven Guard go back home after getting the GeneTech from the Emperor, they get a shipment of brand new MkVI armor to help the rebuilding efforts (delivered by none other than the Imperial Fists). If I remember well, they dedicate it mostly to their mutant talon squads after they stand up to the Alpha Legion (who, also, has some MkVI during the Heresy). Where traitors got more MkIV armor thanks to Horus cheating on the deliveries, I think loyalists got more MkVI.

Of course, what Cypher would be wearing is open to debate. The official model's armor looks like MkVII (modern armor), which is rather weird, unless you consider that modern Cypher being a sneaky git probably got his hands on whatever kit he felt like. And since he is being sneaky, that might well be MkVI ;)

Ah, shows what I know - I thought that was an older mark helmet! Well, I'll see if I have anything else left over. I thought about doing the hooded head, but I don't have one and would have to green-it instead...

It is, MkVI is older than MkVII ;)

MkVI was developed before the Heresy and produced at its beginning whereas Mk7 is still in production in M41 (but actually also started its development/early production during the Heresy). It's all a bit of a mess, really, but as I said above, if you want a Cypher with a MkVI helmet, there is nothing to say he can't have one.

Fair doosies, I do associate the beaky helm with raptors/ravens and general sneakiness. Plus I've never seen anyone do Cypher with it, so thought it'd be fun. As long as it isn't completely implausible that he could be wearing one, then maybe I'll keep it! Might even try to add a hood bundled behind as if he has flipped it down.

Umm...please tell me you included your Cypher as part of a vow*? cry.gif

He does look awesome and I put mine together so that I can include him in my next vow.

* If not, talk to the Captain and blame it on ZEAL. See if he'll let you add it to a follow on vow.

So I didn't have any spare robes handy, but I think the gun-slinging fallen angel turned out alright tongue.png

Kitbash took me a couple of hours.

And he does have a sword, the flash just failed to pick it up :/

Hang on a second guys, my Cypher is trying to tell me something. What is it boy? Is one of the Fallen trapped in a well? I need to read the book? What?

Why you're right Cypher, we have been spelling Lyyn Elgonsen's name wrong all these years. And no wonder he spent his childhood hiding in the woods like that Jodie Foster movie and decided to change his name to Lion. The whole Blood Angels/Blood Drinkers vibe from the Feast of Malediction is pretty creepy too.

Well an update from me. I have finished my Cypher, and here he is all pimped out!
