greendestiny
As much as I like the new decal sheets we have available I find that I like sculpted should pad armor better than using decals for shoulder armor. I have been working on my Red Wolves for over a year now and finally have enough of the wolf head shoulder armor for both my tac marines and my terminators. It cost a small fortune. Outside of the first founding and a few of the second founding chapters that GW does sculpted pads for, what other armies do you wish you could get custom shoulder armor for? Do you think that you would do more successor chapter armies if they had custom pads or icons available? I will put out there: Blood Ravens Storm Lords Revilers Iron Snakes Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290952-sculpted-shoulder-armor/ Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
I hope the future will bring GW selling digital 3D files so that we can print stuff like this ourselves while maintaing GW's quality of 'sculpting'. My list is; Fire Hawks Scythes of the Emperor Guardians of the Covenant Cheers, Jono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290952-sculpted-shoulder-armor/#findComment-3683486 Share on other sites
Hemal
I doubt many home 3-D printers are of sufficient quality of print to allow smooth shapes like shoulder pads to be created However, I don't doubt a few custom shpulder pad packs would not go amiss - I'd love to see more variety for the Fists + packs for the Silver Skulls, Scythes and Black / WHite COnsuls as well as the Mentor Legion. GreyCrow
Yeah, home printers won't be great for the resolution of the object. However, GW could really gain by equipping his stores with higher quality 3D printing to print on spot low volume bitz for conversions and such. Keeping its facilities for mass producing units because that's cheaper, but offering the ability to print each bit on-demand in their shop is going to be priceless. Easier customization and conversion, and who wouldn't pay £1 to get that combi-grav you can't find anywhere ? Or purchase every Dreadnought weapon option to magnetize them ? Or purchase sculpted shoulderpads for your Marines ? Unforunately, GW is a relatively conservative company, and since a few years has a primary business strategy of trying to attract new customers, rather than pushing products to its existing customer base. Which as a sidenote I find completely ununderstandable : they have no entry-grade product line (the price barrier is going to repel a lot of potential customers), and they have a really dedicated and captive customer base that they don't tend towards. Grotsmasha
The future's a big place, home 3D printers aren't up to the quality....yet, I have zero doubt that they will be within probably 5 to definitely 10yrs. They have FOOD PRINTERS already for God's sake..... Hemal
lol food is easier to print than plastic. :-) But back on topic, I think that pad packs would sell well in resin or in plastic TBH, just wouldn't see much call for them to be in plastic given initial expenditure Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290952-sculpted-shoulder-armor/#findComment-3684321 Share on other sites

The kind of 3D printer that can do their components justice is currently very expensive and very slow. Never mind how conservative they are, that won't make any kind of financial sense for some years yet. averykess
you can already leverage 3D printing for this. battle captain corpus
I'd settle for them to at least continue supporting the ones they have/had pads for! -laments the loss of being able to buy Genesis chapter shoulder pads...but is happy in knowledge that he has 100 of them in bags- :D :( :( BCC Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290952-sculpted-shoulder-armor/#findComment-3684929 Share on other sites
Aqui
There's only one Chapter that I really want a custom printed pauldron for (guess  ), but I think that if they offered the service that they'd get quite a bit of custom :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290952-sculpted-shoulder-armor/#findComment-3684956 Share on other sites
greendestiny
There are some that would be very useful across multiple chapters since they use similar symbols with different color schemes. Like: Raptors, Mentors, Storm Hawks White Consuls / Black Consuls Minotaurs, White Minotaurs, Tauran, and Brazen Minotaurs Raven Guard, Hawk Lords, Knights of the Raven, Howling Griffons. Knights of Gryphonne, Skull Bearers, Mortificators, Legion of the Damned Emperor's Hands, Dark Hands A few that I want to add to my personal list are: Tigers Argent Lion Warriors Star Dragons White Panthers Flame Eagles I noticed a pattern in myself. I like the animal Icon chapters better than the Greek symbols chapters. I also like the various different "Cross" chapters like Black Templars, White Templars, and Iron Knights. I had never noticed that about myself. Has anyone tried the "Shapeways" company pads? Are they any good? SW1
Get hold of some old plastic pads, GS, and instant mould. I've had a lot of fun quite a few years ago trying to do as many different pads as possible. Will have a dig through my bits boxes. SW1
Once you've got normal pads sorted it's not too much effort to turn them into other marks of armour. So start off with this: http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee214/SW1-SWC/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps47d24201.jpg And with a little shaving you get this: http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee214/SW1-SWC/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpse94b18b5.jpg If you add a bit of plasticard to the edges instead of shaving then you get this: http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee214/SW1-SWC/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps54078f4a.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290952-sculpted-shoulder-armor/#findComment-3833811 Share on other sites
