The Counting of the Wolf

What's up everyone,

So, I soon will be ordering Book One and probably the smaller compact book with all the legion specific rules, so when summer roles around i can try and start my own Crusade Era Luna Wolves army, packed with Terran boys and clad in that gray-white and black scheme. But now i'm wondering what would consist of a fluffy Luna Wolves force. I know very well that they were known for their shock assaults, aiming for the head style of warfare, but what do you guys think would be the best representation of that via Rites of Wars and units choices? Also looking at  http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Luna_Wolves_(Sons_of_Horus) as a quick reference, it seem that the SoH legion rules are pretty much exact match to how the Luna Wolves always were (merciless fighter = controlled rage, Bitter Pride = well their pride). Also Storm Eagles... Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Well large tactical squads are good for any army, and since Luna Wolves will be based during crusade you would want to use mostly MkII and MkIII. Assault squads are also good for Luna Wolves, as they fit with the ferocity of the legion. Justaerin and Reavers are both still good for them as well, I think, but still in their alternate schemes. (Somebody correct me if Im wrong) Basically anything works fine for the legion, because the legions were such large structures that there would be many different specialized sections. You could easily do siege guys, a recon force, a pure-terminator force led by abaddon and some Justaerin, and eventually Horus! The possibilties qre really endless.

Pyromancer's hit it on the head tbh. - if you want (as I believe a couple of folks have done) a 'rebirth on Istvann' style then Loken leading despoiler squads, contemptors and a fair amount of heavy APCs then go for it - on the other hand you could go (with your evident liking of Eagles) for the Angel's Wrath ROW and aim for a Storm Eagle based list, backed up by Fire Raptors and lots of melee-orientated units to take advantage of the Merciless Fighters rules.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Pyromancer - you know your last comment about the variation in legions is something I've never really considered. It's kind of interesting how many only associate each legion with a particular style of warfare (obviously some excel in certain areas), yet half the time we never seem to consider their other aspects. Something i'll have to keep in mind for later.

Russ Brother - An Angel's wrath list would be sweet and heavily thematic, but don't people say that after one Storm Eagle/Fire Raptor that they'll probably never build another? Truly is such a shame for such a gorgeous model. I probably will still end up getting one or two Eagles though. But since they can deep strike if i'm correct, Orbital Assault sounds interesting all of a sudden. You could have deep striking terminator coupled with some flyers and drop pods, really brings a "shock" to the assault...(sorry for the bad pun...)

True, each Legion had a preferred method of warfare. But remember that their army's ability to take on any situation relies on many different units. Remember they are armies that can stand alone and so will have many aspects; armor, light armor, infantry, heavy infantry, etc.

So essentially you can do anything that tickles your fancy.
