Converting jetbikes

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

I finally read the two white scars novels and like the feel of the nomadic tribes and lightnimg strike aspect of them. I have in my head a bike army idea, i know iknow, everybody plays white scars bikes at the moment but i am planning for a small fluffy force. I would like to build the army on jetbikes because i really dont like the sm bike models. The bullock pattern jetbike would be the look i am going for. Thus i need to sculpt the imerial cruiser prow looking bit. One isea i had is using the Sammael on a Jetbike model as sise comparison, but buying a model that costs 30 pouunds is not in my budget. Can anybody give any thoughts on that. Has anyone tried converting bikes to jetbikes in this manner before. And if anyone has the sammael model lieing around could you tell that would his jetbikes prow be about the right sise to be modeled for a regular bike.

Doing a quick Gogle image search for "bullock pattern jetbike" can rovide you with some creative ideas and options.  Using spare Storm Shields for your prows can be a semi-inexpensive route to recon as well.  Rhino bit here, other bits there and still using or reusing (as it were) cut off bits from the bike models repositioned and so forth could also reduce your expenditures....even if they are used as structural pieces for your to cover of fill over with Green Stuff or your favorite sculpting putty.

Doing another Google image search for "40k jetbike conversions" can provide even more ideas and options for you to explore.  Put yourself into the mindset of your concept and just think "White Scars" and "Jetbikes".  To me that means swift and manuverable rather than burly and bulky as the models currently are.  From the image search, the image that speaks to me and my minds vision would be based off this result:  http://mordian7th.blogspot.com/2011/07/heresy-era-thousand-sons-jetbikes-build.html  However, your stated impressions vary from mine.  Whichever route you choose, I wish you Luck and post up your progress when you get the chance, would love to see how this goes for you.

FW would be nice mut still trying to do this on a quite small budget.

actually i have gone through google quite a lot, and the bullock pattern jetbike picture is my maine concept picture. most probably i will try to sculpt the prow pieces from either greenstuff or clay, then take a cast from it and replicate. also my idea is to make the footplate about the size of the boot. Also the prow would cover the hanlebars.

Thats the plan anyway. let see what hapens.

To achieve the look of the Bullock pattern i am converting regular SM bikes. I csulpted the armoured prow and jet exhasut from clay and then had it 3d sculpted by a local small startup and afterwards 3d printed the pieces.
Here some pictures of how it all went down from clay to plastic:

I cut down the footplate to make it look more like a bike. I belive that Marines born in the sadle dont need help finding the place where their feet should go on the bike.

My original thread is up on the Independent Characters forum but the forum is getting quieter and quieter now that the podcast is finished. So i decided to make a thread here aswell.
