The Legion for You

This is going to sound a little off, but picking any chapter/legion/warband, etc is like falling in love with a female(male if your a lady).

Their are so many choices, option, variety, of basically the same thing(basically their all just marines, just like women are just the female gender of homo sapiens), that when you fall for that special one , you will continuing return to them constantly, because they became a better part of you.  Thats how you pick a fraction, not on rules but of the passion and happiness thinking about them gives you.   For example, when I start chaos, I first went to WE, then WB, and then DG, but something was not right.  I kept changing schemes, making DIY, etc, but I came back to my gut instinct.  I play WE and WB 40k version because I love them.  I later realize that I also love DG, but not the 40k decaying version, but for what they stood for pre heresy.

So basically go with your love.  Also picking a legion is easy because they can't reject you like woman :/

No!!! I like the Blood Angels because of the Red Thirs-

*slap*

Night Lords have been my favorite army in 40k, love the fluff and love the look. now that i'm playing heresy i am honeslty even more in love with the VIII , they have such a unique style of war that i can acctually replicate on the table. Emperor's children are very intriguing and i have a small detachement of them that i am slowly building up but, the night lords definately are my primary for 30k.

While I really like the Raven Guard and Imperial Fists, and pretty much every legion, I really think that I am going to just go with the Ultramarines. No matter what I keep coming back to them, as I like their sheer flexibility, size, and the fact that they are the "standard" space marines with a bit of Roman bad-assery (can I say that? Apologies if I can't) thrown in. I have a decent amount of FW models all ready to be assembled and painted, and I think it's about time I get started on the painting and make an ETL vow for this subforum.

I am doing Night Lords and the reasons why I chose them may seem a little different. I chose an army based on the character of the individual's involved. I enjoyed the idea of working on and bringing to life a Legion who has characteristics that are at odds with my own. I figure I was a way to stretch my creative muscles a bit both with fluff and models. Plus, I threw a little real world information into their development.

My specific facet of the Night Lords force is focused on PsyOps, and are responsible for enacting terror inducing events prior to the arrival of or prosecution of a compliance/extermination action(in almost all cases the latter).

Your legion of choice will be and can be whatever you put into it. Every legion has their Black sheep and their do gooders, so rest at ease and close your eyes. The legion of choice should just come to the forefront of your thoughts.

Good luck!

...Raven Guard....

You've all been great.

After a long look through and read, I have decided on Imperial Fists

As for my love, it will always be for Death Guard. But only in 40k. Not in 30k.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Imperial Fists have in store for me.

Explain the death guard love, for me its the opposite.  Love the 30k era death guard, but something is really off about the 40k plus era, for me any way(which is weird because I love painting rotting flesh, have a VC army, as well as planning to do a 250 plus plague zombie with nurgle Daemons(love those models) support but can't do plague Death guard).

The Imperial Fists... That's a versatile Legion. Painting up the breachers would be fun.

I go through cycles of thinking about doing a legion, recently it was imperial fists, then death guard, then dark angels, now I'm considering word bearers, could be anything next.

I'm planning on doing multiples, with common sense applied.

I will have one primary Legion (waiting on the mighty First to be portrayed) with all the cool toys and large points count.  Then to get my fix, I'll be doing small Allied-style detachments of a few others to have fun painting other neat stuff and playing with other cool rules.  Additionally, this allows me to play multiple aspects in any campaign setting, as I plan to do plan to build... at least a small bit... *sigh* of traitor forces.  (That would be a first for me.  I, like my mighty Legion, am loyal to the core.)

You and me both. Despite my claims to pick and stick with the Ultramarines, I can't really justify not going with the Raven Guard. I like the Raven Guard the most of the legions, I suppose, with Ultras being #2, but I don't want to pick a legion that can't do it all, so to speak (thus the love for the Ultramarines). But after reading some more, I realized that the legions all had the material and training to make any type of force fluffy, and so Raven Guard it will be. Plus, I like the idea of a force with some mk II vets, some mk VI vets (as Extermination states that mk VI was still being tested by a small group of Veterans by the time of the drop site massacre), and the bulk of the force in mk IV.

Good deal, I was going to say every Legion could do it all so to speak.  Good call!  Although seeing some UMs would be cool, not too many of them on the boards either.

I also have some MKVI armour (5 of them) lying around waiting for use, you may see some in my Terror Squads.

Awesome man, I look forward to seeing them. What armor are you using for the bulk of your force?

If I can make a convincing Iron Warrior in Mk VI, every Legion can do it, lol.

That's awesome. I feel like it fits too, because the Iron Warriors were known for their technological prowess. I love the Iron Warriors and Iron Hands due to their large amounts of technology and calculating approach to war, but so far other legions (Raven Guard) have beaten them out of my painting table. But I think I'll paint a squad or so of IW or IH and see if they take my fancy.

Side note, I really like the mud on the base. How did you do that?

Snow flock and elmers glue, with a little brown for color. Mix to about the consistency of soggy mashed potatoes. Apply to the bases in clumps (it'll 'melt' down a little, tease it in about an hour with a toothpick), and strategically placed blobs on the warplate. Let dry.

Add some straight brown smears of paint here and there.

Apply a thick coat of Argax Earthshade, including to the plain smears. Dry. Do it again if it doesn't look dark enough. Dry again.

Hit the model with matte sealer.

Apply a super thick coat of Citadel (or whatever company you prefer) Wet Effects to the mud and smears. Let dry for about a day and a half, maybe two. If it looks like it has white spots in it, it's normal. it just needs to dry longer. They'll go away.

And people wonder what takes me so long with my Iron Warriors.  :P

The bulk of my force is MKIII armor it seems, with some MkIV at a very close second. See here : http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288067-armonds-wip-etliii-vow-1-complete-051114/page-10

That mud on his base is actually blood from all the IFs he has killed. ;) I cannot wait to bleed you heathens!

I have tried a few Legions, with the Alpha Legion having the biggest hold on me. However, I have decided to work on another Legion as I want to take my time on each Alpha Legionnaire.

So I have looked at other legions, wrote a few small lists to see if I could get a feel for it. Currently between Night Lords and the Word Bearers. Next Ill think of some concepts for the models and decide from there.

Saying that I also had the idea of a small Raven Guard Rapid Reaction force, designed to strike at the traitors, especially the Alpha Legion. Think of them as trying to brake up the Alpha Legion agent network.

I've been back and forth with several Legions over the last two years, but I always had a soft spot for the Alpha Legion (the very first army I tried; love the whole subterfuge, spies thing etc), but could never get a scheme for them that I liked.

Now I'm happy with my scheme, and after a long foray with the Iron Warriors (and being a fluffy player, rather bored with what was becoming a static gun line army), very happy with my army. I'm a huge fan of their mysterious background and FW got it pretty spot on in my eyes

Keep dreaming, gutter rat. Whenever you're ready to actually fight, and not hide in the shadows, I'll be right here. ;)

If only I could paint faster! But I is get the blue base coat on all the models in my second vow. Soon it is black to clean it up and then comes the fun details!

I honestly am super anxious to get my stuff on the board and see them in an environment outside of a table to paint on!
