Fytharin
Was just browsing the web and found this blog, wasn't sure if it was news to people considering the talk I've been hearing has been Orks/BA. http://apocalypse40k.blogspot.ca/2014/05/more-new-7th-edition-info.html I really hope this means we're in the new starter box... d@n
I would guess blood angels after orks as there need for a new codex is greater. We want to saying "until next winter " to the currant dex for a while. Fytharin
I'm going to think positive and hope this is true since Lords of War tend to be pretty spot on...my two favorite armies in the starter box? Valerian
I've seen this same rumor elsewhere, and there is still some debate as to whether the October slot will go to Wolves or Blood Angels. Our current dex is 6 months older than theirs, but they probably need the update more (based on 6e context; 7e may flip that on its head). All are concurring, however, that it'll be Angels and Orks in the September starter set though; haven't seen anything to indicate there will be Wolves in it, even if we get the codex first. Either way, I'm a bit torn - I do want to see a new codex, with all of the excitement that entails, but it might be beneficial to not be one of the first two 7e releases. A later slot in the edition may prove an advantage. Fytharin
That's essentially the core of what I've been seeing as well regarding the BA and SW being pretty much interchangeable as far as who comes first. I think both of our codexes are pretty solid as they are with blaring holes that over time we've managed to cope with via Aegis DL, etc; As much as I want new models I'm afraid of what they are going to try and take away (JAWS) and in turn try to replace it with (an over priced flier) or just junk supplements in general. Right now the only thing keeping our codex from being underpowered are the one or two overpowered aspects. Rift Blade
Me, I'm for waiting. If the other rumour is true about FW pushing back the sacking of Prospero to do SW & 1000 Sons justice, I sincerly hope that the 40K Wolves will get the same treatment. Heck, maybe the FW & GW releases will even be about the same time.(My poor wallet!--Honey, about the Visa bill, I can explain....) I know I know. Optimistic Blood Claw Whelp but god dammit I'm not at work so I refuse to be a pessimist!!! LOL!!! d@n
I'm looking forward to new models but not new rules. I have 60 grey hunters, all painted up to a very high level. Anyone who has painted any of the space wolves models will know what a massive task painting them is. as each model has the same level of detail as most other army's hq's. and I just know that grey hunters will get a massive nurfs in favour of blood claws or some other new troop choice. In regards to new models, would be interesting to see what models people would like to see replaced and are currently un happy with. I am fairly sure the entire community hate the current TWC model... :) Would love to see a new rune priest in terminator arm as they are still using the old old old one!! EW! also it would be nice to have a proper wolf standard in the Gh box sets. Valerian
In my humble opinion, we're all set for the basic infantry, as the 5e Terminator Pack and Space Wolves Pack plastic boxed sets give you everything you need to make all of the primary units, either alone or when combined with other appropriate plastic boxed sets (i.e. Wolf Guard Terminators, Wolf Guard in PA, Grey Hunters, Blood Claws, Wolf Scouts, Long Fangs, Swift Claws, Sky Claws, Lone Wolves, are all good-to-go); Fenrisian Wolves and Thudnerwolf Cavalry are taken care of, as well (even though some don't care for the look of the TWC, they're still modern and recent, with no impetus to update). Where we really need new scupts are along the older Character range, including Special Characters, so that list includes: Logan Grimnar, Ragnar Blackmane, Ulrik the Slayer, Njal in Power Armour (his newer Runic Terminator Armour model is just fine), the generic Iron Priest, and the generic Rune Priest in TDA. We could also use a couple additional options for generic Wolf Priests and Rune Priests in power armour (as well as Wolf Lords and Wolf Guard Battle Leaders). In my opinion, the best way to get after this gap would be to produce a plastic Space Wolves Hero boxed set (similar to the Space Marine Commander one), that would have all of the bits needed to create your own character models, with enough variety and flexibility to allow you to build any of these types. Lastly, we could stand a Space Wolves specific Dreadnought plastic boxed set, or failing that, a Space Wolves Vehicle Upgrade sprue with the appropriate bits to allow you to "wolf-up" any of the stock Space Marine vehicle kits (e.g. Rhino, Land Raider, Dreadnought, etc.). Other than those various hero models, we're doing quite well. Leif Bearclaw
To be fair, I'd quite like to see them overhaul TWC completely. Marines riding wolves, it's a damn silly idea. I'd much prefer something akin to DE beastmasters, with the Marine packmaster on a big meaty quad bike, followed by his pack of giant wolves (which is also how I'm planning on modelling my TWC when I get round to it). I hope we don't get a new pack box, I don't want the bolter handle and hands to be one piece, like in the new tac squad. To be honest, apart from new things, flyer, that relic tank that was rumoured a while back, we don't really need most of our range replaced. That said, a Wolf Priest model would be nice (no, GW we need one that isn't Ulrik). Also, please let us get a unique dreadnought, it sucks we're the only loyalist codex without one (DAs get Mortis, thanks to FW). Rune Priest Jbickb
Didn't the venerable Dreadnaught used to just be ours? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291001-new-sw-codex-confirmation/#findComment-3685927 Share on other sites
irwit
based on the last few releases I think it will only expand the range, not re-do anything, plus a few character models. I think our characters are some of the oldest going, Ragnar??? So I would of thought a few key characters including a decent wolf lord. A split flyer type of some sort, outside of that I doubt you really need much else? Wolf scouts would be cool but in theory they are already covered. Theres also wulfen, maybe a split option new pack for a couple of new unit types. Expanding, not replacing seems a pretty consistent strategy from GW these days. Valerian
To be fair, I'd quite like to see them overhaul TWC completely. Marines riding wolves, it's a damn silly idea. True, but that ship has sailed and is extremely unlikely to be taken away - especially given that GW did, eventually, bother to produce its own models for the unit. Also, please let us get a unique dreadnought, it sucks we're the only loyalist codex without one (DAs get Mortis, thanks to FW). Yeah, I agree; it'd be great to get a unique Dreadnought again. Didn't the venerable Dreadnaught used to just be ours? That's right. Originally, the Venerable Dreadnought was a feature of only the Space Wolves, but then proliferated to everyone else (just as the Stormraven was originally just Blood Angels and Grey Knights, but has also proliferated). Nrthstar
http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2014/05/40k-rumors-space-wolf-flyer.html for the flyer point I'd have to agree Val, except for one massive glaring abscence from our termie box and gh/bc box, Cyclone missile launchers, and combi weapons. Sure there's ebay for bits, and now FW for the combis, but as the standard space marine box comes with combis, I would hope we get an update that includes them too. And I'm sure most wolves here would agree getting CCMs isn't the easiest of tasks at times when all the bits sellers and recasters are out of stock from time to time. I admittedly don't hate the thunderwolves models, and I actually love them in general. Sure it seems silly a little, but so does the whole game when you think about it, it's an absurd view of the far future, bring on stuff outside the norm. Makes us unique. I like my Mr Dandy twolves models more, but they are so large, there's little hope for a cover save or better yet total LOS blocking, so I'm toying with the idea of trading off my 3 dandy's for 3 GWs to match my existing 3 GWs. But for the love of all that's holy, GW give us a character updates! As for the wishful thinking that we're after Orks (I'm hearing this'll be August, as DE will be late fall) I'm onboard, but I doubt it. Too many people saying BA will be the starter set with Orks, and if that's the case, it would be foolish of GW not to release a new book for them. But Allfather I sure hope it's us. The damned angels have a more recent book than us. Fytharin
Personally I don't mind the TWC models, they aren't terrible and to be honest we could still be stuck without models like we were in the past. More than anything I want our older HQ models to be updated, Logan, Ulrik, etc; Cyclone Missle Launchers are definitely absent and heaven help us on this flier...I'll probably end up buying it regardless but depending on how much the rules on fliers change in this next edition we may not see much play with it.
