Forté
Don't shoot me for using the X word. I'm still painting power armour. Well, daemon engine to be precise. I've been trying to figure out how to paint the biomechanics on my Forgefiend and then it hit me. What is the scariest biomechanical thing to be on film. Alien! As in Ridley Scott and H.R. Giger. Now comes the tricky part. The skin colour. To me it seems a mix of dark green, brown, blue and with a metallic sheen. This would be built up over a black base. Does anybody have other ideas. And I'm only thinking Alien or Aliens. Not the later films or comics. Many thanks. Son of Carnelian
No good ideas other than a THICK coat of 'Ardcoat when you're done. Part of the unsettling nature of the beast comes from how slimy it is. (HR Giger's recent passing made me think about this a lot, incidentally.) Rik Lightstar
I'd be tempted to pick out some edges with really crisp highlights and then go for a really high gloss varnish, maybe an ink wash between coats of varnish. Emperor's Fury
I would go with a dark blue/black over black undercoat, use a black or blue ink, pick out the highlights and add a ton of varnish or 'Ardcoat. R.I.P. Mr. Giger. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291031-alien-xenomorph-skin-colour/#findComment-3685974 Share on other sites
Xin Ceithan
I am joining the Giger remorial thread. His work is my mental reference point for dark admech and especially slaneeshi biomechanics since I first saw it. if haven't already search coolminiornot. They had some awesome Alien busts and dioramas which seemed to be pretty close tothe movie colors (can' t really access that from my mobile at. the moment) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291031-alien-xenomorph-skin-colour/#findComment-3686011 Share on other sites

I often forget to used CMoN for some reason. Probably because I don't like to see people's models rated as it can be disheartening. Funny that you mention Slaanesh too ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291031-alien-xenomorph-skin-colour/#findComment-3686023 Share on other sites
Hemal
A lot of his design work on the original alien was designed to be somewhat phallic in reference - hence the later variants he regarded as completely going against the aesthetic he was trying to portray. I'd go for a dark grey base, wash with blacks, blues, greens in varying quantitites and sheens across the surface. Edge highlight with very shart highlights to add to the hi-gloss effect. Lucien Eilam
I'd go for a dark greenish-brown for an authentic Giger look. Blue-black aliens are more a quirk of movie lighting, those tones are relatively rare in his art. Maybe some subtle blue glazes, but not actually black. Aspecti
I hope it's ok to link this even though it contains filthy xenos life forms, but I think you could use the pictures for reference for the paint scheme :) Oh and the text is in finnish :/http://www.gowarhead.com/2012/09/hive-fleet-nostromo.html Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291031-alien-xenomorph-skin-colour/#findComment-3687881 Share on other sites
