Painting Question : To White or not to White ?

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I decided on what colours to use for my Battle Sisters, but I'm not quite sure with the tanks.

I will pass on the fluff for now, but my scheme is taken from the Argent Shroud (as is my minor Order), but with blue added.

This is the concept art I used to think about my colours. Blue/White cloth with silver armour and golden lys/details.

But for the tank, I'm not sure. Should I go full silver with blue ? With white ? Full white with blue ? Full blue with white ?

Any thoughts, ideas, opinions ? Someone have painted them with those colours that can give me tips or if those colours works bad on tanks ?

Thank you.

I think any combination of those colors would look fantastic. One trick I have used is to print out a black and white copy from a webpage of the model I am considering. Then, draw on it with ink pens or colored pencils to help me see and conceptualize the possibilities. I hope that helps. smile.png

I think you need to keep the colours matched across infantry and vehicles. The primary colour on your troops will need to be the same on the tanks, otherwise the difference between them may be too much and they'll look like different armies on the table.

Silver is a good colour and will go very well with blue and white but I think it looks better the less you use - large blocks of it don't look great. Fortunately Rhino chassis have plenty of bits for you to break it up on easily and of course you can add as many SoB iconography as you like so I reckon it'll look nice on Sisters :)

With vehicles the larger flat surfaces require special attention but nothing major. Work up thinner coats with smooth brush strokes in a single direction and they'll be done nicely in no time. If you're handy with an airbrush then even better!

@McFisty : I will try that, it's a good idea, especially with tanks.

@WarriorFish : Good thinking, I will try to figure out the best part of the colour of my models (probably blue), and think accordingly. I will keep silver for extra-armour etc. like it is for my sisters.

Thanks.

I don't know if this will help but when I did my Deathwing, I started with a black primer, then dry brushed a dark grey to a lighter grey and still lighter then to white. I really like the white I achieved from this and use a like method on my GK. but just to grey and I use a pearl in the mix for them. Can't wait to see yours I bet they will be great. If you want, check out in my album to see my DW land raiders.

It will look good if its broken up right but the main reason people don't waiting white is its a massive pain to get right.

Do one sister first, work in dividing colours at the joints like Ulthuan Grey and see how it turns out, personally I decided to stick with the traditional colours and add a second force of white for a small detachment option if ever I need to field more than 2000 points.

Yeah maybe it will be difficult. I haven't painted much white and I know its difficult. That's why my sisters primary color are gonna be blue and silver. For the tanks, I like them battleworn, so if I can achieve a good ''white but battered'' effect on the tank, I'm gonna be happy !

For those of you who uses the red-gold-black of the ''classical'' Sisters. What red do you use ?

I used the old Red Gore, though I did paint one exorcist with Scab Red by accident one day. No idea what these are now, but the closest Army Painter matches are Dragon Red and Chaotic Red, which I now use.
