7th Edition No FOC

So now that the new 7th edition allows people to have a no FOC list I can happily say no more Loganwing just Ruin Priests and Wolf Guard Terminators. As great as Logan is I was kinda tired of pumping the points into him. Any one else happy aboutt his? I was also thinking of making an entire Ferisian wolves list with prob 300+ Wolves or all Lone Wolves with the Mark of the Wulfen that way when you kill all of them I win pretty much by default.

Remember that even in the new edition, taking Logan will make those Wolf Guard Terminators Troops, which means that they get the "super-scoring" advantage (i.e. cannot be Contested, except by other Troops with the same rule).  You'll certainly save points, and net enough to buy at least 2 Rune Priests, plus some random gear, for what you have to invest in Logan, but you sacrifice the super-scoring, in addition to his not inconsiderable other features, such as granting various special rules to units and the fact that he's a beast in close combat.

Also, there are going to be more Mission options, so there is no guarantee that, in your other example list, that taking all Lone Wolves is going to be an "auto-win" choice.  If it were "auto-win" why would you play it?  What's the fun in going through the motions of a game that you know you can't lose?  Why bother?

Best,

I only see this as the golden opportunity to run full blown fluff lists with battle missions and objectives feasible for fluff lists.  It will seriously add options for my Bran Redmaw lists that I would not have bought before due to not being able to use or be limited by the FOC.

Giddeon - Look at it this way I have 50 ICs that cannot join another unit. If I line them up in a straight line and at 1-2" apart from each other all the way across the battlefield and march them and run them, you will not be able to pass me when I get into range to assault unless your units are Jump, Jet, Skimmer or Flyer. If you ram me with a tank all the men in the way will do Death or Glory and die instantly. When I assault a unit every Lone Wolf within range will assault the unit or only 2 at a time per unit so I can issue a challenge with one and assault the squad with the other. .

Another thing is thats with the Mark of the Wulfen. I could just field 100 Lone Wolves without a Mark and then I can have a model in a completely line touch base to base to mark across.

Aside from the crazy gimmick army ideas I do not see Unbound armies being particularly more viable than standard ones and I also very much doubt I'll wind up changing my army composition much, if any, as a result of this change.

After all I tend to play mostly Apocalypse games anyway where the FOC was already absent.

hard to say for sure. But if anything, i might just end up using MORE grey hunters

by the way, if snap shots are only bs 2, grey hunter overwatch fire is now twice as deadly and long fangs with preacience are a much more. Palatable fill-in for anti air (leaving aside allies and eventual new dex). Twin linked, BS 2? That's a 5/9 chance of hitting. That's said, presciejce is rumoured to no longer be a primaris..

Unbound armies have some crippling disadvantages. Cant contest objectives vs bound armies is going to mean that only the most broken, cheesy unbound lists are going to make it to competitive play. Besides, our best units are our HQ and troops choices, unless you want to run a full TWC/FullDread list, I dont see why you'll ever be using the unbound rules.

I have my fingers crossed that we can retain loganwing in a battleforged list, and that things like that dont get left to unbound.

Until we know though, we have some excellent 7-samurai style scenarios in the works to open up our new campaign. Ill be fielding a group of characters vs 1500 points of whoever takes up the challenge.

A full dread list would be something to see...   I dont think there is an army around that would look at a dozen ironclad or furioso dreads combination podding/walking at their lines on turn 1 and not cringe...

Blood Angels can pretty much already do that:  2 HQ, 5 Troop, 3 Elite, 3 Heavy (just need a unit of 25 non-dread guys)

faced it... it's not that epic, they still fall apart to thunder hammers.
