Siege Regiment with Space Marine allies

Recommended Posts

Whats the best way to go? Im putting a focus on Artillery (as I am a DKoK regiment) but would also like to take some leman russ's into the mix, as well as being unsure whether to field my space marines as vanilla marines or as Dark Angels. Some advice would be helpful as I am new to Imperial Guard tactics-wise. Im more of a fluff based player and kind of built the army on pure impulse rather than thinking of how it will play and now Im finding myself concerned for how it will play.

Here what I have in my collection so far, models wise...I just dont know quite how to kit them out or play them as just yet.

-3x Basilisks

-1x Hellhound

-1x Ragnarok Siege Tank (Field it as a Leman Russ or?...)

-3x infantry squads

-1x Storm Trooper squad

-3x Ogryns (a fourth can be easily added as I have the parts laying around to do so)

-1x Platoon Command squad

-1x Heavy Weapon squad equipped with autocannons

-2x Commissars

-1x Tech-priest engineseer (who Im willing to field as a priest perhaps)

as for my Dark Angels allies, its still a growing idea but heres what I have thus far...

-1x tactical squad

-2x captain models

-1x Dreadnought

-1x Rhino

-1x Chaplain with plasma pistol

Anyone know where to better aim my army? The Emperor Protects HQ.gif

EDIT: Im still really curious as to what I should invest in next. Tanks more troops or artillery? or what? I dont know what would compliment what I currently have.

Since you like sieging stuff, why not take SM codex imperial fists with centurions and ironclads. Maybe even the Sentinels of Terra supplement. It will certainly maximise your shooting and give you a midfield presence. Alternatively you can look into Iron Hand for some heavy armour and dreadnought action. Finally, there is the DKoK FW army list for your artillery and the Armoured Battlegroup for artillery tanks and leman russes.

Initially yes, I thought the Imperial Fists would be a nice fit. But wouldnt it be silly fielding Dark Angels painted models as our yellow friends? also Iron Clads do sound appealing. What about converting that second captain model into a Tech-Marine and fielding it with that cannon thing (eh...whats it called...its on treads... doh.)

As for the FW rules, I have them downloaded and printed out and Ive found through the handful of games I have actually played is that the normal IG codex rules are far superior to the DKoK rules. (Its fun to switch back occasionally though) But I do want to center the army around the standard Astra Militarum codex.

Play them as a successor to IF or hell, play them as DA who have the SM tools, maybe that company got some forge world support after helping them. Don't let the colour stop you from massive dakka. The big cannon thing is called Thunderfire Cannon and yes, it is solid but I find the Wyvern superior to kill infantry because it's way cheaper and always fully buffed. You can take one though, it's always solid in an allcomers list.

Ironclads are a lot of fun, good models too. I like your theme it's very cool but you'll need to be careful throwing all that ordnance around as your Marines will want to get close to the enemy and you don't want any friendly fire if you can help it. The Thunderfire Cannon (TFC) is a good siege weapon as you point out, a nice model aside from the building process too :P

Your model collection is solid too, there's enough to Guard it up nicely for an artillery regiment. Maybe a Company Command Squad would be useful for dishing out orders and the Techpriest will be handy to keep your big guns ticking over. The Hellhound will be good and fit in well especially advancing with your Marines. Regarding what to take with your Marines I think you should keep it simple - Tacs and Dreads will provide some valuable durability and close support for your Guardsmen.

Could you style it after the vraks 1st book? they had dark angels taking a space port I think, and korps of all descriptions being there... Sorry doesnt help specifically with the list, but if you are building around a theme it might help, also might show you what the angels used in that engagement as a starting point....

TFC is SM only. If fact, you will limit yourself by using the DA codex. Play SM, they will contribute so much more to your play-style with TFC, Centurions and the sort. Since you have access to divination with IG, you don't need DA librarians anyway.
