Cheddybob Posted May 15, 2014 Share Posted May 15, 2014 Well boys and girls, I've finally pulled full circle and come back to what drew me to the hobby in the first place. I remember seeing pictures of an Iron Warriors army back in 04-05 complete with a few basilisks. I thought it was great, but at the time was young and jobless. Fast forward a few years, no more artillery is CSM. Enter my mostly gray plastic space marine army, with a few oddball colored marines. And I find out about this wonderful thing called Forgeworld and the Horus Heresy. After a slew of promotions at work, which I attribute to some good training for my senior Marines, I can finally afford this wonderful hobby as I'd intended many years ago. Enough rambling. Here's my current in progress ETL vow minus a Medusa. And the other five destroyers I painted before the ETL. Hope everyone enjoys them as much as I've enjoyed painting them. And a special shout out to 1000heathens for having an awesome army that really helped inspire me to start this army. Plus, I totally ripped the freehand legion symbol off of his. There's a saying about imitation and flattery I think. That head just screamed "I lead a bunch of guys who shoot mini nukes at other guys" to me. In fact it's the only one out of my vast collection of bare heads that I've used in years. Pyromancer Posted May 16, 2014 Share Posted May 16, 2014 Thanks brother. I think I'm going to use the head on a techmarine conversion I'll be working on in the upcoming weeks. As for the eyes, I feel like black is the way to keep it for IW. The simplicity, but utter brutality and terror that are pitch black eyes is so representative of our legion, both by its look and also how it represents our demeanour. But I have been thinking about black or at least a dark color with a gloss coat on top. To make it look glassy. Great, dark color scheme too, although less hazard stripes/chevrons than I'd expect from canonical IW. Are the bolt pistols on the destroyers yet to be painted? I really want an army that, when I put it on the table or I'm showing something off at the hobby shop, is unmistakeable. So "looking the part" is definitely what I'm going for. Ovidius, I've been struggling through AE for a while now. Not that it's bad, just always motivates me to work on these guys a little more after a few pages. Their bolt pistols are still unfinished. One or two of them are highlighted, but I've been tossing around ideas in my head to try something more than just black/metallic. Anyways, thanks for the comments.
