FW Solar Auxilia

Form the recent FW HH Weekender, there are images of Solar Auxilia (troops, a basilisk and a new transport) here:

The troops look very nice. Perhaps a good Scion alternative (or other carapace-armoured troops: vets).

Is that basilisk based on a Russ hull?

Lastly, that transport might be convertable into a counts-as Chimera.

[sorry for not actually posting the images. I'm on the phone]

Will edit out the post-human stuff when I'm next at a PC ;)

Brotherhood of Steel immediately sprang to mind as well. I think the sci-fi look helps distinguish it from the more archaic looks of the current IG lines (yes even Cadia with their mid to late 20th century Western armies look). That said they look like they have power armor & not carapace. I'll probably get a single squad & use them in =][=/AdMech or any conversions that involve power armored non-Space Marines.

If FW does Dark Angels with enhanced humans to represent the older Order members that joined the legion but don't follow aesthetic mentioned in the books (more form fitting like those used by mortals opposed to the bulky type used by full Astartes) these would make good starting off points for a more faithful look.

It's cool to see some 30k love, but though they seem quite cool I agree that some of it looks a little uninspired. I expected them to have them be a bit of a throw back to the original Guard models if they ever did them in the HH, but it seems only a bit.

I think the AdMech collectors will like them, but we may still be waiting... confused.gif Vehicles look quite good though I think it's veering into the too different compared to 40k. I don't see why FW feels the need to reinvent things quite so much?

They look like 2nd edition sculpts in both style and quality...down.gif

I heartily disagree, brother. The quality of the sculpts are far and away better than second edition guardsman (they aren't even close) and the style makes me want to think that they are either auxilia drafted from one of the vanquished/co-opted techno-barbarian nations of old Earth or perhaps they are conscripts from Luna (considering the bulky plating on top of the pressure suits). That's how good they are - they fire the imagination. And that basilisk, well, it was about time someone put an artillery cannon on a Russ chassis. ^_^

You mean the battle cannon doesn't count? :P

I'd like to see some more variety to represent the Guard (Army...) better but that will likely come in time. I've been thinking about getting another respirator kit from FW so I might have to postpone it in anticipation.

I stand by my assessment of the crude clunkiness of the infantry sculpts.

You actually think these are even remotely close in sculpting quality?

Really?

Abso-friggin-lutely.  Actually, I like the mordians better than those half-life-looking things...pop rivets all over the place doesn't equal "better."  Hell, even these guys are better:

Let's not forget march is entitled to his opinion on something, no matter how much you believe him to be wrong :P I can see where you're coming from, the detail of the models is of course great as you'd expect from FW but the style of them feels a bit too old fashioned. The more I look at them the more AdMech they appear.

Good points, both.

Including one of an alternative weapon for that transport. A short-barrelled cannon or mortar, it seems.

The basic armament looks to be a TL lascannon? And something up top...heavy flamer?
