Orbital Defense Laser

So I'm preparing to host an Apoc game next month. one of the central features in the game is going to be an Orbital Defense Laser complex that the defenders will have control of. Each turn they have 2 options of what to do with the Defense laser.

 

1) Shoot it at approaching enemy units.

 

2) don't shoot it at approaching Enemy units, and instead allow it to fire and keep the orbiting Battle ship from being able to reign down fire in the form of Orbital bombardments.

 

So use this very nice and effectively free D strength weapon against targets on the ground or let it stop the orbiting ship from firing it's big ass guns down on their heads. Nice choice huh?

 

So I need an ODL for them right? Well working on it. Here's where it stands as of today:

It's built in 2 major sections, the rear section and the forward section.

 

The rear section is comprised of one long section of tubes partially surrounded by a series of tubes that are encircled by wire to give the impression of cooling sections of some form. Something resembling plasma cannons and gun. The forward sections is comprised of 2 tubes, on inset of the other, with a sheet of styrene wrapped around that.

 

So, what do you all think?

The Monstrous lascannon... yeah, pretty much what I was going for. Just this ginormous freaking huge cannon that's based on the same technology as a lascannon... just... on a metric HUGE scale.

As for the details... yeah getting to that.

Got a decent amount of work done on the ODL today. The cannon itself is complete, next I need to finish the housing for the cannon itself. I finished 'building' the platform but I need to wait for an order of bits to come in for me to finish it. Originally the building itself was made out of cardboard and reinforced with foam. But I think I'm gonna re-build it using Styrene. But that is something for another day as it's already mid-night here and I've been working on this the better part of the day.
