Suggest a good table lamp?

Recommended Posts

Can someone suggest a good table lamp?

I'm thinking LED because I'd like a neutral / white and slighlty diffused lamp but still bright and not something that will heat the room to Nocturne temps. Or are LEDs still not good enough?

Amazon reference a bonus.

Thanks!

I'm afraid my advice isn't great... I simply use a variety of lamps. I have one with a "full spectrum" incandescent bulb (the ones that simulate daylight), one with a warm halogen, and this Ott light in black. The Ott light is a cool light, but very crisp. The others just sort of bathe everything in a nice glow. I find that I paint under the full spectrum one most often, but that could be cuz it's in my best physical lamp. It's an IKEA one that clips on the table, like an architect's lamp.

I'm gonna second using an Ott light, very clean, I occasionally do add some fill and color using a cheapo floor lamp with CFLs and a small target house brand adjustable desk lamp with an h1/h7 bulb in it.

This is more or less the one I use:

I recommend checking if you have a Jo-Ann's crafts & fabric near you, and get one of their usually very good coupons off their website. 40% off a single item is what I usually see.

you want around 6500K colour temperature for good daylight simulation. The key is really the bulb.  Get yourself a goo, tall angelpoise base(heavy base so you can move it around woithout fear of it falling..) and a very good daylight bulb.

I bought this one recently

Given my aim is to paint for GD, with the target of placing within the next couple of years, I felt that painting under lights similar to teh ones used in display cases is the way to go..

That is a great recommendation Hemal. People often paint under quite bright lights, forgetting that in daylight or weaker light, their colours don't 'pop' as well as they did under their painting lights.

Good luck in your GD goals too. :)
