Gab
So I splurged for a full suite of weapons for a contemptor, including twin plas cannons, and want to use all the weapons. Has anyone magnetised a contemptor and can you recommend a magnet size? Thanks. Grotsmasha
Yep, imo the best place is the swivel join between the elbow and shoulder. I used 3mmx1mm magnets as any deeper and you'll go all the way through the pieces. I'm not sure about the new pin vise, but GW's old metal one can take a 3mm drill bit, which you can get from any hardware store. Aqui
I've used 2mmx1mm, which are okay, but in retrospect, I'd have gone for 3mmx1mm or 4mmx1mm mainly as the resin is a little too weighty for 2mm. It does do the job though: Just be careful when drilling the hole for the elbow joint - the resin isn't as thick there (I went all the way through but the superglue sorted that out) Getting a drill bit will definitely be easier (and safer) than using a craft knife like I did with the first magnet (I couldn't find the drill bit, so I improvised and nearly sliced a massive part of my finger off ) I did want to magnetise the entire arm for posing, but it was too complicated for me, so I settle for the above in the end. Still, it do make it very convenient for using different load outs Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291279-magnetising-relic-contemptor-weapons/#findComment-3694060 Share on other sites
Ion
Just watch how deep you drill into the weapon arm, as brother Aquillanus stated. I did the same and it's great for switching loadouts. Magnetising for poseability is a whole other matter though, and honestly I wouldn't recommend trying unless you were really determined. You'd have to do the elbow magnetisation regardless anyway. Well I'm determined to use all the weapon options I have, even the fist weapons, but don't think I'm going to go for poseability. So I've got my dread, all the weapons, except the extra plasma cannon to run twin plas, and still have to get the 3mm drill bit. Will be using 3mm x 1mm discs. Will try post some pics as I go. Pbenner
There are three pieces in question when you're doing this work. The Shoulder is in (2) pieces; The large one with the shoulder cup socket, and the small one that attaches to the outside of the shoulder and makes the attachment point for the elbow. Two holes are needed, one in the small piece for the arm, and one for the small piece of the elbow. Set your magnet face down on a piece of metal. Set your bit right up next to it, and using a small permanent marker, mark on the bit where the magnet comes up to. This gives you a depth guide. Once you have this, drill your pieces. On the shoulder attachment, it will go almost through the underside to the inside of the model, this is okay, because when it's glued in the place, and thing missing from that small part has a flush place to glue to behind it on the big one. On the arms, just be more careful, but same concept. I have magnetized the arms on 7 contemptors so far, all went very smoothly.
