Brother Heinrich
Why they didn't do the face grill I will never understand. Oh well, the rest of the model is wonderful. TheForgottenAngel
I think it's an aesthetic decision, small hands on such large baroque about would look out if place and jarring to the eye. I'm glad Edgar went the direction he did. I do wish he would've added the option for a respirator but we can't have everything. Green stuff is a helluva drug though ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291294-mortarion-up-for-pre-order/#findComment-3693870 Share on other sites
Relict
Beautiful model. Mortarion just might be the first Primarch model I invest in... One small problem: I'm not a big fan of the way he holds the scythe. I'd have preferred a more traditional grip - both hands on the shaft, much like the Typhus model. Ezeriel
Eh, I'm struggling to love this model. He just isn't like I envisioned from what I've read and what artwork I've seen. The lack of the fask mask is something I can fix with some greenstuff but something about the backpack nags at me. I'll eventually get him and convert him for my dusk raiders but sadly I'm in no rush now. TheForgottenAngel
Actually his grip is very traditional in wielding a scyth. Having used a traditional scythe it wouldn't be nearly as effectively used if held how you are describing. I can picture him cutting swathes of space marines as easily as a farmer does wheat. Using a scythe is a fluid motion which uses the weight of the blades momentum to be slow the curved blade longer time in the cut, causing deeper cuts that the inertia allows. Scythes not nearly as effective used in a chopping down motion as it defeats the purpose of the blades design. Sorry my farmer is showing. Relict
Ah. I see. I was kind of hoping that he would have one hand on Silence and the other hand on the Lantern. From what I read in the novels, that is one awesome pistol. Fire Golem
I really really like him (enough that it's added Death Guard into the list of possible legions for me to do) but I don't understand why he doesn't have a mask, I've never seen a single picture of Mortarion without the mask, and it's part of what makes him so sinister. Prodigal Son of Magnus
Got to say, I was apprehensive that we would get another Lorgar but Mortarion is very nice. reckoning
Not a fan. Your explanation of the properties of a scythe are cool mind you. But Id rather see him using Lantern. High Marshal Marcus
I agree that the grilled mask would have been quite fantastic... Someone brought this up before, but I really wish that FW would provide alternative heads for their character series. I am only up to Fulgrim in the HH books, but so far I never imagined him having such a sinister face... A serious face, sure, but not one so corrupt. As for the rest of the model, I think the legs are a little large in comparison to the rest of him, Not a huge fan of the factory on his back, and while i agree that the scythe is the "real" scythe design, it still seems off. I think Typhon is a much, much better model.... there... I said it. TheForgottenAngel
Here is an example of a scythe in use. Pay mind to that its in the hips and the blade does almost all of the work. I'm glad that this helps you understand the mechanics of Mortarians weapon of choice. Bam. http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110312202131/warhammer40k/images/9/9f/Mortarion,_Prince_of_Decay.jpg I always imagined him with a gated grille that breathed poison smoke in front of his face, and I was surprised to read in Scars of him wearing a rebreather. Hyaenidae
Be that as it may, Mortarion doesn't have a spear. He has a scythe. So do many of the elites of his Legion. So, that's how they murder legions, by brutally cutting them down like wheat. With a scythe. Don't like it? Play World Eaters, and cut 'em down like lumberjacks. Hyaenidae
When you're the biggest thing on the battlefield, it's ok to have a low swing, I'd think.
