Mortarion up for Pre-Order

Recommended Posts

I agree that the grilled mask would have been quite fantastic...

Someone brought this up before, but I really wish that FW would provide alternative heads for their character series.

I am only up to Fulgrim in the HH books, but so far I never imagined him having such a sinister face... A serious face, sure, but not one so corrupt.

As for the rest of the model, I think the legs are a little large in comparison to the rest of him, Not a huge fan of the factory on his back, and while i agree that the scythe is the "real" scythe design, it still seems off.

I think Typhon is a much, much better model.... there... I said it.

I've never seen a long scythe in action before. That video opened my eyes. I rescind my earlier comment regarding the look of Silence.

The FW Fulgrim model depicts him during the Dropsite Massacre does it not? According to the corresponding novel, Fulgrim is already heavily corrupted by Slaaneshi influence by that point, what's with applying strange makeup and tattoos to his face. I think the hollow face of his model captures his state at that point in time perfectly.

I really really like him (enough that it's added Death Guard into the list of possible legions for me to do) but I don't understand why he doesn't have a mask, I've never seen a single picture of Mortarion without the mask, and it's part of what makes him so sinister.

Bam.

I always imagined him with a gated grille that breathed poison smoke in front of his face, and I was surprised to read in Scars of him wearing a rebreather.

I'm fairly sure that the above painting is of Mortarion in his Daemon Prince form. After that little stunt Typhon pulled, Mortarion is described as "having grown tall and gaunt, as if stretched on a rack" (I paraphrase). I'm pretty sure that before his transformation he didn't have feathery wings either.

Tracking that, man. My point was that I had imagined a grille in front of his face, bonded to his chestplate, like the above artwork. Not a rebreather attached to his face.

Which is what the last page and a half has been about.

If that was Non-Daemon Mortarion, I'd be seriously concerned about the Emperor's already shaky sanity.

While some may discredit the idea of how "brutal" cutting wheat is, I think it is pretty brutal and awesome in the sense Mortarion effortlessly can cut swathes of marines as if they were blades of grass, which is what the motion captures in the model. Also having used a scythes I sure as hell wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of one, let alone a primarch. Food for thought.
I do agree that the handles on Silence are a bit awkward, but I mainly think it's the positioning of his right arm. The face does look a bit corrupted... then again he grew up on a poisoned death world and was raised by what may have been an undead Nurgle Lord or Dark Eldar Haemonculi and was surrounded by undead stitched together walking taxidermy projects gone wrong. I think you'd look out of sorts too.
