Tiger9gamer
so I had a second look at this huge monster of a drop pod and i'm interested in what it does. Is it like a regular drop pod that comes in turn 1 and the guys can disembark like normal? or is it a turn 2 arrival that allows the marines are stuck inside as it comes in? Lucien Eilam
The experimental rules are still on the Forge World site: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/K/Kharybdis.pdf Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291298-what-is-a-kharybdis-drop-pod/#findComment-3693827 Share on other sites
Tiger9gamer
oh okay I see. so it really is a beefed up drop pod. Cool! So with 20 man capacity, would it be able to store a squad of jump packers inside? Atia
it's a big dreadclaw for big squads . and yes, it should be possible. you also can transport a 9 robot thallax squad with forgemaster in her <3 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291298-what-is-a-kharybdis-drop-pod/#findComment-3693836 Share on other sites
daveNYC
It's a mess. It's an assault vehicle that has a special weapon that prevents you from disembarking, plus you can't assault when you arive from reserves. As far as I can tell, you either use it as a very expensive drop-pod for 20 dudes (or one dread), who then have to hang out and get shot for a turn, at which point you then have the thing scoot around the board heat blasting and/or pinning things, or you use it as a storm raven, fly on, then hover and assault, except without the heavy firepower of the raven. The storm launchers might not be bad, S6 and pinning, but you're looking at Land Raider points for AV12 and not a lot of damage potential. Long story short, you're paying a lot of points for an assault vehicle that isn't easy to actually assault out of. Tiger9gamer
I'm more seeing this as a means to get certain units on the board or in good position. since it could hold 20 people, i thought about using it to deliver 9 Terminators with varios combi-weapons along with an apothecary and preator to get a very very hard to remove squad that can take units down. It's cheaper than a spartan for what it can do. OR, use it to establish a beachhead with a 20 man tactical squad in an area that you can't really get to normally. I see it as an Apoc Vehicle mostly, and would probably use it as such Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291298-what-is-a-kharybdis-drop-pod/#findComment-3693855 Share on other sites
Kilofix
I just used it to drop 9 Termis with Combi Plasma and a Lord in the back with a Black Mace. The former shoots everything first turn, the latter assaults the next turn. And while that draws attention, the pod can still fire 10 Str 6 shots the next turn. So not completely useless. Edit - Course that was 40K, but hey similar for 30K Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291298-what-is-a-kharybdis-drop-pod/#findComment-3694245 Share on other sites

No. Page 78 main rule book. Transports can carry infantry, but not jet or jump infantry. Theredknight
I see this as it pods in, the guys stay in there, it hovers about to where you need it then assault out of it! Am I reading these rules incorrectly? I don't think you have to disembark the turn you arrive, or what's the point in it being an assault vehicle? Lucien Eilam
Right, it's as much like a beefy, deep striking Stormraven as it is a drop pod. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291298-what-is-a-kharybdis-drop-pod/#findComment-3709094 Share on other sites
Theredknight
With the ability to drop 20 potentially game changing guys in on t1, able to assault t2, drop a load of fire off with it as well. Add this to the hidden blade emperors children row, and that's a precision strike force potentially devastating people on t2/3!
