MY Wolves vs. Nurgle CSM

Hello all, I have a game coming up against CSM (Nurgle), is there anything I need to know? I watched a bit of this army and I think I noticed a ton on invul saves, and a huge hoofed creature that caused a lot of trouble.

Please share your experiences here, and let me know if you have any tips,

Thanks

His grenades will get rid of your charge bonus and he has a higher toughness so he will sit back and wait for you to attack him and he will rapid fire as often as possible.

But you have characters with perks and bonuses that help out and the lone wolf is something to use to drag them out of cover so the rest can attack without issue

My housemate plays a nurlge army with lots of plague marines, a couple vindicators, and a daemon prince (presume this is the hoofy monster you have seen!). They can be a tough nut to crack at times, but are deffo beatable with wolves.

As nurgle armies are pretty consistently toughness 5, krak missles and plasma are your friend here, as are characters with beastslayer rules..so lone wolves, and maybe a lord with beastslayer and an AP3 weapon. (in the past against my housemate, ive run a TWC lord with a wolf claw, melta bombs and beastslayer, with 15 wolves as ablative wounds, works a treat against PM). Rune priests with jaws can also work well against plague marines due to their lower initiative.

You want to priorotise fire into the daemon prince early, they are tough but not invincible, im presuming theyre gonna take a flying one, so try and ground it first, then its much easier to finish off - if it gets into combat it can easily go through a whole squad of marines in one turn.

If you are playing for objectives, make them come to you, plague marines are tough in cover due to getting FNP saves, but once out of cover, no longer receive these for ap3 weapons (so plasma, melta, krak missles).

Dont try and match 1 plague marine squad in combat with 1 grey hunter squad, even with their I3 you will lose due to the blight grenades, plague knives,  and the higher toughness of the plague marines. With the high cost of plague marines, you should outnumber them, so try and team up on their squads (or at least whittle down their numbers a fair bit before charging).

They get a shrouded save (with then gives them a further FNP save) if you are shooting from too close (6" i think??) so keep a 7" distance if you are firing at them before charging

If he is using helldrakes i recommend taking rhinos or razorbacks to transport your troops.!!! other wise u will be losing plenty of units and very quickly.

and also help you to outmanouver him, as PM are usually slower to move around the board due to often being footslogged msn-wink.gif

Its a 750 game and I am thinking of running something like this

1 HQ RP Chooser

10x GH with 2x plas, one plas pistol and one Powerfist

Rhino

10x GH 2x melta, Powerfist, Wolf Standard

Drop Pod

4x LF 2x ML, 2xLas

1x Squad Leader

2x LF 2xML, 2x, Plas can

I am debating which squad gets what in terms of transport, and I was hoping to drop behind his Maulerfiend (I think thats what it is) with the meltas hoping to pop him early.

The Plas team can drive around in the rhino to cause trouble and intercept.

What do you think?

You'll probably be better of with Wulfen in the Rhino squad rather than the power fist, the 1 (2 on the 1st turn) attack it chucks out really isn't worht the heft price tag imo.

Also I may not be following your second Long Fang squad. It looks like you're taking 2 Fangs with missiles launchers and two with plasma cannon. But you need the pack leader as well for it to be a legal squad.

If it helps, melts plasma and lascannons are pretty devestating, but the worst is TwinLink ass.can, not sure how easy you can get them in SW format but they tear my mates up pretty bad.

My ba run as many ass.can as possible and smash his PM's pretty easy.

I ended up winning the game pretty handily. I popped his vehicles with ML, and DP/Rhino rushed his troops with plas gun plus plas pistol. I ran two packs of LF, 2x ML and 2x Pcan, and 2xML 2x Lcan

His units were tough, but I could thin them out with rapid fire shooting and heavy weapon support, and my GH did decent in combat with counter attack and superior numbers.

I got first blood, killed his commander, captured the relic, line breaker, and eventually tabled his army.

Thanks to everyone for their tips and suggestions.
