Terminator armour

Regurgitating the previous statements, I believe it has a lot to do with your Legion, and the Fluff. None of which of course you have to follow.

On the other hand I know that the IFs are more suited to the Cataphractii TDA, yet I would like to build a really fluid agile set of Templar terminators from the first to accompani Sigismund, and i can see them being more suited to some Tartaros Suits

I used to really dislike Tartaros suits - then there was the cover of Tallern Executioner... They look quite awesome in IW colours, I have some Cataphractii (not yet painted) that I need to decide on SoH or IW. The faster Tartaros suits might look cool in SoH colours and fits their attack style a bit more. Them Salamander Termies are awesome.

I used to think that Tartaros looked the coolest on the FW website. Now, compared to the other marks, Tartaros Terminators just scream chubby dudes to me :p

If I had to choose, that'd be Indomitus for me all the way. Much sleeker, much more dynamic.

I have Justaerin (Cataphractii) and I love Cataphractii and think it suits Sons of Horus. I'd never even considered Tartaros until the artwork of a SoH terminator in Tartaros (Conquest) was shown at the Weekender...and now I'm tempted to get Tartaros. Damn it FW!

May do a squad of Tartaros Sons of Horus who are a part of my company, and leave the Cataphractii for the Justaerin just to keep things different*.

*different here being used as a euphemism for buying more resin

Cataphractii here, brutal looking. Mortals will go weak in their knees and will reek of fear. The VIII would probably love it, teleport transponder, beam into the middle of the enemy force, start lightning clawin' and power fistin' to the face! Panic and terror ensue, then more death! Then bam, the Emperor's will or whatever has been enforced; dead planetary governors and leaders. The VIII just love their reliable protection so they can kill in relative safety.

Cataphratcii here too, with a dash of Tartaros depending on what kind of termie unit I want to make. Cataphractii just, as stated above looks amazingly brutal. It just looks perfect for what terminators primarily do - fight in tight spaces or TP in an wreak havoc.

Tartaros on the other hand looks like the better CC termie suit because of its sleekness.

So as an Imperial Fists player I'll probably kit out Tartaros suits as Termie Templars, whereas I'll use Cataphractii as the siege/tank buster units.

Indomnitus just rubs me wrong because of the helm, something easily fixed with some kit bashing.

Pretty much this. While I appreciate Heathens' philosophy, and very much agree with it, for me, it all depends what you want the unit to do, or represent. For example, in the XIIIth army I'm planning, the army is part of a taskforce hunting down Word Bearers elements from the Chapters of The Broken Scythe & Star of Judgment. As these two chapters use lots of anti-infrastructure weaponry and phosphex, etc, I plan to run with as much 'heavy' armour marks as possible, so will go with Cataphractii. I would do the same for footslogging termis, deep striking termis, and any other such unit intended for the real brutal combats.

For other termi units, such as, say, air-cav assaults, or for units from those Legions who prefer mobility, etc, then I feel that Tartaros is the better mark.

Personally, I love both for aesthetics, and would generally go with the above guidelines when deciding which mark to use. Of course, it's your army, so ultimately your choice, but I will say this (which I think has already been said): Why not both?

I use nothing but Cataphractii for my XVIth Pride of the Legion force (other than Deathshroud... don't start me on that wallbash.gif ). I was contemplating using Tartaros for my Primus Medicae but I don't want to lose the 4++ save... I LOVE the look of Cataphractii mixed with Tartaros, I may just snag that idea.

Cataphractii Terminators with combi-bolters and chainaxes are flipping brutal.

I'm currently building me some Cataphractii Terminators with weapons from the special weapons pack. Just got the sergeant done yesterday (armed with twin lightning claws and grenade launchers). I'm excited to see how the comically oversized reaper autocannon and heavy flamer units turn out...

I have 2 auto cannon Catas and 1 heavy flamer Cata and, yes the auto cannon is HUGE on them, heavy flamer however is surprisingly small.

Currently saving some $$$ so I can get enough Tartaros to have the same amount of both. @_@

I, for one, would leave the autocannons on any hypothetical terminators I got/fielded at their original length.  It looks unwieldy, yes, but there were reasons why the assault cannon was developed and superceded the use of reaper autocannons in terminator squads.  Best to reflect that.

It's a moot point, though, as I'm unlikely to field any terminators anytime soon, and if I did they'd have a plasma blaster, not an autocannon.  But that's just me.
