Gripharius
Bastion Wars is an omnibus of Emperor's Mercy, Flesh and Iron, and Blood Gorgons. Has anyone read these books? Are they worth picking up? Stormborn
I've read and enjoyed them all. I preferred Emperor's Mercy (Inquisitor) and Blood Gorgon (Chaos Marines) over Flesh and Iron (Guard) and there is some claims of plagiarism relating to Flesh and Iron. To be honest like all BL novels you know what you're going to see. On the whole they fall between the likes of ADB/Abnett/Chambers/Wraight and mcneil/thorpe/kyme in quality like the majority of BL novel, generally I always feel that if I'm looking for a good book BL isn't the place to do so. Lets be honest without the licence BL would be pedaling pulp fiction (and fairly expensive pulf fiction given that amzaon give this sort of stuff away free on kindle). However, if your looking for a 40K fix then Henry Zou delivers better than some not quite as well as others. Major plus factor is that your not getting big name GW characters, regiments or campaigns like abandon, ultramarines or armageddon so there is less chance of fluff foul ups. I'd liked to have seen more of the Bastion setting not sure why GW/BL didn't develop it a bit more maybe with a wider range of authors or tie in campaign instead we got the rather generic and dull space marine battles series. Sothalor
I only have experience with Emperor's Mercy. It was... alright. Some pretty good action scenes and interesting concepts. I never really warmed to the characters though, especially the protagonist. I didn't horribly regret reading it, but it didn't make me eager for more installments in the series. battle captain corpus
I read all 3 as they were released and yes I thought they were solid works. Emperors Mercy is actually one of my favourite Inquisition books and Blood Gorgons did a nice, different take on Chaos Marines. Are they phenominal works of literature? No....are they pure bolterporn.....no! They are good, solid middle of the road BL fluff. :) BCC Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291383-bastion-wars/#findComment-3697319 Share on other sites
