GK Post 7th FAQ is live!

Death from the Skies book is an optional supplement - no replacement of our unit entry in the codex unless the new Errata, Amendments, and FAQ says that we have to use DftS (which I'm sure it doesn't).

Edit: Just reviewed the FAQ, and although there are some dissapointments (there were with my Space Wolves, too), I think the Grey Knights still come out ahead.  The fact that the Grand Master loses his relatively lame powers and now becomes a full-fledged super-Librarian is awesome.  Now, there really isn't any reason to take a Librarian, too, outside the Psychic Hood.  The fact that the entire army gets access to the new +2 Hammerhand is also pretty awesome = AP3 weapons (or better) across the entire army that wound on 2+ is amazing.

Of course more analysis is required, and I'm sure we'll be discussing for weeks or months, but the initial review is promising.

The Brotherhood Champion is a clear loser here, but nobody really took him anyway.

Why would u take a 1w HQ ? My BA friend kept trying to point out that heroic sacrifice was awesome but it's the face that there are pointless digital weapons in his armoury that make me think that he wasn't really thought through properly as he rerolls to wound rolls, now he has lost his I die but in one last act of vengeance I take you with me power I find that I would rather take a bog standered inquisitor and justiciar thrawn for the same points and pretend that thrawn is my HQ,

Regarding the rest of the FAQ have u guys noticed that the dread knight is back to S6 and 3 attacks with the sword, he is also no longer a character ,

On the flip side dragio can be S7 T5 with a 2+ and 2++ saves which is nice

@Gentlemanloser wording from DFTS

BA and GK armies use the rules printed above though their Stormravens have additional wargear and special rules - see the army list for details.

So Mindstrikes are fine.

Also nothing changed for the NDK bar the powers. It now has banishment and Hammerhand. Hammerhand is still useless as it is S10 already as Gentlemanloser said.

Hmmm.  There was a DftS FAQ about the GK Raven.  Are you sure it mentions Mindstrikes in the book?

Edit: Yup just checked, it's there.

But it gives them Fortitude. lol.

Our units get Banishment? WHY THE censored.gif WHY?

Yeah, that's lame. Fluffy, but lame. Would have much preferred Sanctuary and Hammerhand as the two default across the board powers. Too bad only the vehicles got Sanctuary.

Brotherhood Banner. Overpriced crap now.

It still grants an extra Attack to a whole unit; +25 points for that is still pretty reasonable. Getting extra attacks is usually pretty expensive.

No clarification on TGS and Objective Secured.

Clarification would be nice, but Unyielding Anvil states that they claim objectives "as if they were Troops," which to me equates to Objective Secured, if your running a Battle-forged list.

NO C:I FAQ.

It's digital, so I'm sure it'll get sorted out, too, in short order, once somebody notices.

Banishment is definitely not all that I had hoped it would be, but I gotta say that with the way Daemons (and Daemon summoning) are gonna shake up the meta, we're gonna be glad we have even that. After watching a couple of my Chaos friends play, I can say that the Herald summons are where things can get out of hand: its cheap (Warp Charge-wise) and seriously expands their Warp Charge Pool.

If we can shut down their Herald summons, we can Banish and Sanctuary their troop summons and hit them with a combined shooting and assault. It's going to be a painful experience, but we're also the only army that can do it.

To be fair (I originally remembered Banishment as being WC3 for some reason...) it's not that bad.  Now, if like *all* our other anti Daemon stuff it worked on units with the Psyker (or PML, or BoP) rule that it would be stellar.

Just Daemons.  /meh

Yup.  For just a Wound you get a PML Herald with 50 points worth of Wargear...

The first thing that occurred to me when reading the errata was why they just didn't make a new dex for us. By the time we go thru our current one and make alterations they coulda just printed new ones. LOL

Haven't got to play with my GK yet but am really anxious to try them out. I see months of confussion but the tactical objectives made my Nightlords rock this past weekend.

Certain units got nerfed, but overall I think our codex came out ahead of expectations. With abundant warp charges, str 6 back from the old days, and small changes like 6++ for vehicles and ][ psychers rolling for powers, I think out codex is probably better of than it was a couple months ago. No warp quake hurts tho, but Coteaz can help with that a little

Basically, we're a totally different army now.

To the Prescience/Psycannon/Stormbolter spamming army we were.

Not really better or worse (things got buffed, things got nerfed), just different.

And different is a welcome breath of fresh air frankly.

Yer not supposed to be fighting anyone but Daemons...it's not so hot, in terms of the metagame, but it's perfectly fluffy tongue.png You're not witch hunters, you're daemon hunters.

7th makes me relieved I didn't buy more. GK took a big nerf because GW wants to sell daemons.

Hah...every other forum is conspiring to ally in a GK libby, and you're whining. Now, the "everyone's going to be spawning daemons all over the place" scare might be overblown, especially since you almost insta-gib the psycher who tries it, but GK are the ultimate answer to daemons, with offsetting meh-ness against all else, so I'd say that a new meta that sees more warpspawn is a buff, not a nerf, to GK's viability.

Tell that to Psyk-out, Mindstrikes, Daemonbane and The Titansword... ;)

*All* non GK Psykers, just a shade away from Daemonic corruption...

I don't think our Libby is even the strongest HQ choice to Ally. Coteaz man...what doesn't he do? As for strongest Ally unit, hands down Purifiers. They are easily the best PA unit in the game right now.

They're looking a whole heck of a lot like our old PAGK from the 3e Daemonhunter codex, woo hoo!

~sigh~ Here we go again...I say in the fluff you're too obsessed with daemons to worry about witches, you come back with anti-psycher wargear from the tabletop wargame. As if a lasgun had a 1/6 chance to kill a terminator in the fluff. As if there were no daemons with psychic powers. You can't refute fluff with game rules. ~eyeroll~

Hmmm...interesting thought...I'll have to compare the points cost and synergy of Coteaz+purifiers to the points cost and synergy of ML3+purifiers...

I think Crowe is still too expensive. Coteaz makes your henchment (and their transports!) able to seize objectives. Purifiers can kill the opponent's troop units or seize/contest other objectives without opposing troops. As long as you have at least a few "objective secured" units, purifiers can afford not have the rule.

As much as people are talking about purifiers being scoring, I think Crowe will almost be required to really make that work against a battle forged army, objective secured just seems to good, but will take a few games to see how it plays out.

Objective Secured for Battle-forged adversary Troops only works if any of them are actually left alive near the Objective; given how nasty the Purifiers can now be, it is unlikely that they'll leave anyone standing to oppose them in securing that Objective.
