Psykers in 7th ed.

After reading how psykers work now and the revised disciplines, I'm excited! Before 7th, I never really used psykers aside from the occasional psychic screamer. I just didn't see a draw to them, though I probably would have used them more often if 40k Iron Hands had access to divination.

Anyone else's views on using Psykers changed? Anyone have any ideas on how they'll use them in 30k this edition?

I know that one thing that came to mind is a level 3 Biomancer on a jetbike. With Iron Arm, an Iron Hand Librarian is T8, and T9 against shooting... I can see all the poison weapons raining down on him now

Word Bearer Diabolists surely rejoice over malefic daemonology (like the chaos daemons they can take as allies, too). Lorgar is the best Psyker around until Magnus hits the shelves and with burning lore, all his sergeants contribute warp charges (and psychic shrieks/invisibility), not to mention his Tzeentchian battle buddies. This will be interesting: fluffy and effective at the same time.

It certainly makes stock librarians better.  Their Ld9 doesn't hurt them as much, nor their lack of a psychic hood.  Being limited to only one table in the first place means you'll always get the primaris for free.

With prescience having gone up to WC2 and the generally low ML level of 30k armies, I think divination psykers will probably take a back seat to biomancy - life leach/smite offer some great anti-marine, endurance/iron arm/warp speed are all great combat tools.  Divination is still strong, but not quite as auto-take as it was, and if you just want a cheap +hit buff a master of signal is more reliable.  Sanctic provides some good tools, hammerhand in a 20 man tactical squad would be hilarious, gate of infinity and sanctuary can both provide some good utility.  Purge Soul will be good for picking on enemy centurions/picking off kitted up sergeants.  Vortex and Banishment will be near-impossible for a lone ML2 librarian to pull off, though.  Malefic powers are obviously great for Word Bearers.

Telekinesis doesn't look super-good for 30k except for Objuration Mechanicum.  That could do some really nasty things to the big vehicle squadrons we see in 30k.  Telepathy seems like a good thematic choice for Night Lords, and probably good overall - Terrify, Shrouding, Invisibility, Psychic Shriek.  Lack of ATSKNF and difficulty in getting fearless/stubborn will make powers here more useful than they are in 40k.

Pyromancy continues to not impress me.

Salamanders (counts as) pyromancer. Tried it before hand and couldn't see why I wouldn't just give him a Combi flamer/Melta. Seemed a bit pointless. I'll be giving him another chance.

Well now you can fire witchfire powers at different targets and it doesn't affect what units you can target in the shooting phase. You also get to fire a normal weapon on top of that. I'd imagine you'd have lots of fun with your librarian.

Shame about losing mastery level 3 though...
