BF/Unbound: Coteaz/Draigo/Crowe

Recommended Posts

So our FoC changers have been nerfed from 'army' to 'detachment'.

I thought this would effect BF and Unbound the same.

But it doesn't.

This 'nerf' only really effects Battle Forged Lists, and is a small perk for Unbound.

If you made a MSU BF list with 4 GK FoC, then Coteaz would only make Henchmen Troops for one of them.

In an Unbound army however, all units from the same Faction (Read Codex...) are classed as being in the same 'detachment'.

So In an Unbound army, Coteaz makes all your henchmen Troops.

Suck on that, I suppose. ;)

I don't really see how that's a problem, though. Just make 1 army with coteaz as HQ, 1-6 henchmen as troops, 0-6 GKSS/Termies as troops, etc. The only "nerf" I can see is that TGS from a GKGM in a detachment wouldn't apply to henchmen in a Coteaz detachment. But then again, unless you play huge game, using a GKGM and Coteaz will make sur you fill your points before you fill a regular FOC...

I think if anything the changes to scoring make our 'unlock Troops' HQ's not called Coteaz irrelevant. Purifiers now never need to see their Castellan, Draigo can remain in the warp as far as Paladins care...we already have absurdly powerful Troops with Terminators, Strikes and Henchmen all being both efficient and 'Objective Secured'. Grandmasters can at least switch their Grand Strategy over to Outflank/Scout now, or if they wanna be really mean give Terminators/Purifiers 'Counter-Attack' ;) haha

I have always rather liked the re-roll 1s to wound

Counter-Attack is nice too. The most common strats you'll use though are Scout/Outflank or turn them into objective scorers (I imagine the FAQ will eventually address this issue, but the RAI currently is that 'Unyielding Anvil' grants 'Objective Secured').
TGS makes up to 3 units socre as though they count as troops choices. At least that's what someone posted as I dont have my codex with me to check. So in bettle-forged armies that would be super scoring, else there is no point taking it with unbound.

Yeah that's how its worded in the codex. However, it's not 100% that it grants 'Objective Secured'. It's very likely, and that's the logical conclusion to make. But I've seen GW go backwards on stuff like this before. (shrugs) Its how I'll play it, at least till they clarify officially.
