TheAngelWithNoFace
I have yet to sink my money into buying one, but Im very interested in doing so. But before I do I wanted to know if the masks/helmet attachments are easy to switch out and or magnetize. Im also wondering if it would be an easy first time wiring and lighting the head with LED lights as Ive never done that before. Any other tips and ideas concerning Knights would be good too as I dont have much experience working with larger models like this. ~The Emperor Protects Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291550-modeling-knights/ Share on other sites
CommodusXIII
I'm in the middle of building/painting my fourth Knight, and I can share some insights. It's easiest if you build/paint it in chunks. I assemble the lower body and upper torso separately, without the armor plates. This lets me paint all of the intricate details that get partially covered by the armor. I glue everything in-place (no movable joints) because otherwise it feels too much like an action figure to me, but your mileage will vary. The cardinal rule of woodworking is measure twice, cut once. For Knights, it's dry fit twice, glue once. I haven't done a lighting conversion on a Knight, but it looks easy. The upper torso has a huge hollow area that's perfect for a battery, with easy access to the head and weapons for power leads. Grotsmasha
I'll see if I can find it, but there's a thread in the WIP forum with LED eyes and a magnetized face-plate. DAWARIS1
the leds are pretty easy to do (although its fiddly soldering especially if ur hands shakle like mine), i've done 2 now, one for me and one for my mate. the one thing i will say is that i lost all head movement in both of them the way i did just simply due to the way i wired them. the faceplates look easy to magnitise, i thought about it but didn't bother, plus i decided i wanted the skull face. here is a post that has some photo's with led's. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288386-electronics-in-minis/?do=findComment&comment=3629754 if u go down the path of led eyes definately try get the 2mm led's and use 2, i.e. one for each eye. my mates one i used 1 3mm as they were too big to put 2 into the head and i don't think it ended up being as good as mine which has the 2 2mm leds. in hindsight i realised i could've gone to town and had lots more light up, but im pretty happy with my end result. i may leave the crazy all out light up stuff for some of my xenos scum eldar tanks. if u want to go super crazy with a knight and are not scared of cutting up that beautiful $150ish dollar model this post is worth a look to. i stopped following after a while cos my knife hand was getting itchy to cut up a knight and do similar, but being a student it was a choice between eat for the next couple weeks or buy a knight and fail more uni cos im spending too much time having fun with it. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287347-queen-bee-knight-its-all-in-her-head/ im sure there are others out there to, but this is the one i remember, mainly cos he has a really good look at magnetising the guns. Thanks, dude. Yeah, check out my thread if you want to scare yourself out of messing with your Knight too much. If you do take the plunge, there are easy and hard ways to do the reposes and magnetization. Lucky for you, there's a lot out there already. Mine is def the hard (but 100% accurate) way to magnetize. Have a look through my thread and absolutely do not hesitate to PM me or comment if you have questions. I'm doing this for all of us. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291550-modeling-knights/#findComment-3701013 Share on other sites
