corai
So The much Maligned Breacher siege squad is rarely taken due to its lack of transport options and speed. Still, I think they are a nice fluffy choice for my boarding assualt/drop pod assault themed Imperial Fists so some will be going in anyway. I just wondered if the release of the Anvillus Dreadclaw drop pod with HH3 (which can be selected as a fast attack choice and used to transport the Breachers) opens up many options to them. The Dreadclaw seems pricey for a drop pod which doesn't come with inertial guidance, but its the only way for me to legally include the breachers in an orbital assault RoW list (and fits the boarding assault theme to a T) so I'm trying to explore the option of running it. Has anyone tried something similar to deliver some breachers into the heart of the enemy? What equipment set up on them would you look at? I'm thinking I'd have to bring it down int he second wave to get some nuncio voxes on the table first to counteract the lack of inertial guidance (curse 30K pods not having the option for locator beacons!). Any advice/experience/thoughts? Thanks Dan Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291555-revisiting-breachers/ Share on other sites
Scribe
I'm getting some, as one of the few troops with Melta Guns. A straight up drop pod would be fine for them if your RoW allows for it, maybe a Dreadclaw would work the same, but without the inertial guidance, thats a risk. corai
unfortunatley, the RoW only allows uits which could take a rhino to take a drop pod so the breachers are stuck needing either storm eagle, caestus or dreadclaw to legally be taken. (Similarly the two tyupes of mortis dreadnought can only be taken if you buy a fast attack drop pod for them as they are not included in the list of who can take regular or dreadnought pods as dedicated transports IIRC) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291555-revisiting-breachers/#findComment-3699408 Share on other sites
Scribe
Breachers cant even take a rhino?? Doh! I guess they get the Storm Eagle then :p Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291555-revisiting-breachers/#findComment-3699409 Share on other sites
Reyner
My Breachers are going to be expensive as hell but it will be fun to race a Land Raider at my friends objective then have the angry Breachers pile out rapid fire then assault him (with the Iron Warrior RoW). Sure it isn't very points efficient but they look cool! Just need to have my Legion Command squad hide their Rhino behind the Land Raider so I can use them to counter assault. edit: Were there no changes at all to Breachers in the new Crusade list from FW? Kilofix
Haven't tried delivering Breachers on an open table but on a separate note - they are great for Z.Mortalis (as they should be) with Void Hardened and Template / Blast re-roll since its almost certain that you'll get hit by Template / Blast. Also Breaching Shields count as having Defensive Grenades. Does that mean they have Blind Grenades per RAW of 7th 40K BRB? Týr
How do you equip the sergant and what special weapons do you take? I have been looking at the graviton gun but I am not sure if it is great or not? Vazzy
I ( in my opinion) always attempt to roll up the void walker? Warlord trait and deepstrike them. It's incredibly entertaining to watch an opponent laugh they become shocked when they don't :cussing move from objectives. Atia
They can also use a Kharybdis Assault Claw Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291555-revisiting-breachers/#findComment-3699613 Share on other sites
Armond
I have ten breachers waiting for assembly and I was wondering all the same things. How to deliver them. I may need a Spartan... Atia
I have ten breachers waiting for assembly and I was wondering all the same things. How to deliver them. I may need a Spartan... land raider proteus or phobos, they are now dedicaded transport with the rule update. And for Orbital Assault: Kharybdis (takes a heavy support) or Dreadclaw (assault) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291555-revisiting-breachers/#findComment-3699656 Share on other sites
corai
I think there's better uses for a Kharybdis though, especially as it's an assault vehicle (mines going to be carrying 8 THSS termis and Sigismund ;-)). I can see the dreadclaw working in a lot if lists, but I'm really loathe to risk deep striking that many points without inertial guidance so that means getting a nuncio Vox down first Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291555-revisiting-breachers/#findComment-3699663 Share on other sites
zedmeister
Breachers have always been able to take a Land Raider Phobos as a dedicated transport from Betrayal. The recent Crusade list adds in the Proteus as an option Another option is you could go mad, get 20 breachers, 4 special weapons, tool up the Sergeant and bung them into a Spartan! I'm planning on running 10 in my 1000pts White Scars list simply because I love the look of them. Still undecided on the special weapons though. Volkites and Gravitons are good, especially for anti-tank. Problem with Gravitons is you'll need to set up camp somewhere as they won't be that mobile. Though if it's on an objective, 10-20 breachers with those shields will be hard to dislodge. Nakuth
You can take a Caestus Assault Ram in the Orbital Assault RoW. You could always grab a couple of them (if you've the points & Heavy slots to spare), and use them to deliver a pair of Breacher squads right up the guts. Moonstalker
So The much Maligned Breacher siege squad is rarely taken due to its lack of transport options and speed. I always thought it was because they were such a poor bargain - big blobs of tactical marines have just as few transport options and are almost as slow, but they're still a solid choice. Breachers just cost too many points per man while exchanging the very useful Fury of the Legion for the questionably utility of boarding shields and hardened armor. Suddenly they're looking like a viable prospect for termi delivery as well! now where di I put my credit card...
