Dark_Master
I have never taken allies, however with the inevitable Daemon spam we might be facing this edition I might think about it. (No abhuman scum though) I'm thinking a GK Librarian in TDA with a squad of Terminator GK's Gives you more power dice and the ability to take Santic Daemonolgy with less risk. Actually quite fluffy if you think about it, specialist squad send in to deal with the horrors of the warp. Any other good combinations? SnakeChisler
I think were loners and we should stay loners Have you tried the new psychic stuff yet if they want to pour forth demons they'll be blowing themselves up left right and center Warp charge 1 needs 3 dice to get a 80% chance of success its somewhere round 90+ for 4 dice so your looking at 5 to get a 2 warp power of so far not to bad that's 80% now we move onto 6 dice oh man the amount of double 6's I rolled trying this out was hilarious basically at 6 and greater your into consistent miscast territory. Best thing I've found for dealing with demons is Deathwing Knights with their deny buff near a Librarian who I run on a Bike with full command and FNP also we now get overkill in challenges and they have to set down before they can charge so there gonna get a plasma makeover + your gonna put Prescience on the squad he's thinking of charging also you've got the Nerf grenade (-1 to toughness) so they can get splattered with a rocket or meltal Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291613-best-allies-for-7th-edition/#findComment-3700898 Share on other sites
aura_enchanted
Am would be my choice if I had to pick one simply because of the better mbt's, the better flyer, and the boost to magic dice from sanctioned psykers and primaris psykers. Space wolves could also be interesting thanks to lone wolves, wolf guard, thunder cav, and rune priests improving dtw. Going solo is totally possible though, these are just my choices given the option of. Master Sheol
Fluff wise the best allies are SW... They are the closest to DA according to the fluff... The most powerful allies are GK however... Aegnor
SW are closer to the DAs than Imperial Guard? I might get a small force of GK purely because I like the models and already have a squad of GK I bought to get some parts for a kit bash. Adding a librarian to that is no biggie, collecting wise. Res Ipsa Loquitur
I would suggest taking a peek at Reclusiarch Darius's 'primer' thread in the Grey Knights subforum. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291546-grey-knights-in-7th-a-primer/ The answer would appear to be a Grand Master, as many Purifiers as you can fit, a Troop choice and a Stormraven. SnakeChisler
OK so what do I really want from allies if I took them Stormraven would be top of the shopping list for my death wing knights Your looking at serious points investment though to get it with grey knights Sm with tigarius will give you a lvl 3 psyker + access to their planes troop choice would be a scout squad Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291613-best-allies-for-7th-edition/#findComment-3701488 Share on other sites
Chaplain Killmer
I can see the IGs or the scions to be valuable assets for us. Mainly to boost headcount, bring lots of tanks and stuff. I am thinking about taking a guard detatchment and use all my marines as deep strikers with pods or teleport. To me that feels very in line with the fluff. bluepillredpill
It's a relevant subject just now for me as i have a 6k each side game where I am teaming up with raven guard and Wolves (2k a piece). The raven guard list is taking a number of assault marine units with rhinos, sniper scouts and dev squads so plenty bodies (86 in total I think) lead by a Chaplin and captain Space wolves are blood claws (with lukas), wolf guard in Terminator Armour (with rocko), long fangs, swiftclaw bikers lead by Njall and Rune Priest so some pysker dice there (54 models i think) Both lists also have aegis lines with quad guns so air defense is in place. My thoughts lead me to think to take my traditional deathwing list with some extra pyskers thrown in to boost the dice pool but would be keen to hear any alternatives you may have Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291613-best-allies-for-7th-edition/#findComment-3701583 Share on other sites

You'd get the Storm Raven along with 2 Storm Talons. SinnerBeta
If I'm going to use allies then it's probably going to use Sisters since they're my only other army at the moment. Still, I guess a team of 10 Flagellants with Azrael wouldn't be so bad, especially if I pick the Furious Charge warlord option to give them S6 on charge on top of all the attacks and a new save. Fluff wise the best allies are SW...They are the closest to DA according to the fluff...The most powerful allies are GK however... If by closest you mean that there are still hostilities and grudges between them that at best times take the form on rivalry then yes, they're the closest ones. What if you are playing someone who will not be casting daemons? Also you know the GK will attempt to kill the DA afterwards so they can keep their secret after the battle right? Res Ipsa Loquitur
Guard Psykers don't use up a HQ Slot (so you can take multiples in an Allied Detachment) and cost only a little more than one Deathwing Knight. If you want cheap Warp Charge batteries, you could do worse than taking Guard allies. Isiah
I'm sticking with a GK termy Inquisitor and GKT squads. Also have options on Coteaz (yes him) plus warrior, servitor and jokearo henchmen. Cheap good fun. Looking beyond Space Marines - IG Storm Trooper squads or Veteran squads in Chimeras are looking ok (the latter as spammed additional Troops), with Primaris Psyker and possibly Sanctioned Psykers for extra Warp Charge shenanigens. [strikethrough]Gotta stop those Daemons spawning somehow.[/strikethrough] :o. I don't think you can (?) Anyway as you can see I'm going for an 'Imperium of Man' theme :). LOL...they're so excited about super-scoring GKTs...I like super-scoring DW better, especially with a super-scoring land raider! I would caveat one thing about GK. The point of allying in GK is low-risk santic powers. So take Coteaz with santic and a super-scoring warband.
