Well, mine have tended to be neither. Still using the old Fenris grey foundation which I've found results in a far darker blue than the 'baby' blue of the GW Wolves and Scions. Got some FW stuff the other day to start Heresy wolves, which I will be trying out proper grey with. At least I will as soon as RL lets me sad.png

Same here, Black Primer, Fenris grey, then wash with Black wash, then shadow grey, then highlighting with 2/3 shadow grey 1/3 space wolves blue. Keeps it dark, heavily shadowed and a bit dirty looking. I love that new paint scheme so much I've simple greened 3000 points so far out of my old 50/50 Shadow grey/Space wolves blue.

The question is though, have you found replacements yet for when you run out? As the new GW range is irritatingly different, with The Fang and Russ Grey both being a fair amount paler than their old 'equivalents'. I've found dry brushing Russ can approximate shadow grey pretty well, but I don't know about replacing Fenris Grey.

I prefer Mechanicus Standard with a Nuln Oil wash as I prefer the colour schemes on the colour artwork.

Tho Thunderhawk Blue with a Nuln Oil wash will give you a rough base to work on for a bluey grey scheme. Follow this with a light drybrush of Longbeard Grey/Elthirium Blue (Dry Paints) depending on your preferred finish (Blue/Grey)

I use both the grey & the grey-blue.

I have decided to use the grey for my elites and HQ's to show that they get the older, relic-y armour of their forebears while the rest get the newly forged grey blue that the Imperium has foisted upon them.

Does anybody know the fluff reason for the change in colour?

No, but I'd guess that gradually the components of Astartes Armour Paint: Grey NO#5077895 have shifted over 10,000 years. Either due to war disrupting the initial pigment supplies, or someone misplaced a bit of the recipe, so a replacement is found which is 'close enough'. Expand over 10 millennia and yeah, I'll buy that your 'Grey' is now closer to blueteehee.gif .

Uniform grey from army painter. to do coat with halfords grey primer then blast black from below and white from above light direction with airbrush then do a couple lights coats of uniform grey, wolves should be wolves not prancing around in blue leave that too the smurfs. Lol all colour schemes are good as long as you play like a wolf should..lol

Nice models!

how did you get your pod so dirty?

I use devlin mud on the Grey spray paint. I also use a semi gloss spray paint as the grey under coat.

The devlin mud wash takes away any indication of the gloss but allows for a much better drying pattern than the matt finish grey paints.

I also use an undiluted heavy devlin mud on the models, then water down the brush and move the wash around to where i want it.

I like the heavy smokey and dirty look.

It gives a level of weathering without basically any effort.

Later when i want to upgrade the painting to more than table top quality it is easier to just add to the existing scheme.

This is entire scheme is just a semi gloss gray spray paint. then a single coat of the other colours on the model, then one heavy wash of Devlin mud.

simple and fast, but gives a good table top quality look.
