Silver fang
So, fellow Fenrir, I have a question about armour. Storm Grey or Baby Blue? I'm all for the grey personally. What do other's think? Do your Space Wolves have a totally unique colour scheme? Cheers. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291664-painting-style/ Share on other sites
Leif Bearclaw
Well, mine have tended to be neither. Still using the old Fenris grey foundation which I've found results in a far darker blue than the 'baby' blue of the GW Wolves and Scions. Got some FW stuff the other day to start Heresy wolves, which I will be trying out proper grey with. At least I will as soon as RL lets me Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291664-painting-style/#findComment-3702069 Share on other sites
The Iron Chancellor
My good friend is all about those space wolves and his army is all baby blue (except for the 13th company) I think they look better in blue but thats just me- its whatever you want after all they're your troops :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291664-painting-style/#findComment-3702079 Share on other sites
skeletoro
Personally I like a grittier, greyer hue but still decidedly on the 'cold' side of grey (bluish). I personally think it should be much more grey than blue. The current GW palette looks like blue to me. battle captain corpus
I normally stick to storm grey with hint of blue for 30K-35K, then traditional blue with hint of grey for 40K. CatSmasher
I went with a paint by numbers approach. I keep them a bit dirty with the washes, but its baby blue for me! Brother Crazywolf
A gray blue is what I have used. Darker for older units like TDA, dreads, and vehicles. Power armor is a little more blue, but only a bit. I like the gray look as well. Robin egg is a bit much in my personal opinion. Marshall Bretton
I go Eshin grey with a nuln oil wash, really gives a dirty gritty appearance. DanPesci
i use adeptus battlegrey, but then drybrushed fenrisian, and highlighted with fenrisian and white. ICY! I also have more red than the 'standard' GW scheme. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291664-painting-style/#findComment-3704884 Share on other sites

Keeps it dark, heavily shadowed and a bit dirty looking. I love that new paint scheme so much I've simple greened 3000 points so far out of my old 50/50 Shadow grey/Space wolves blue. The question is though, have you found replacements yet for when you run out? As the new GW range is irritatingly different, with The Fang and Russ Grey both being a fair amount paler than their old 'equivalents'. I've found dry brushing Russ can approximate shadow grey pretty well, but I don't know about replacing Fenris Grey. Reede
Dark Sea Grey! Muahahahaha The inspiration for my guys really came from the 5th Edition Codex cover. To me that really caught the awesomeness of the Wolves a lot more than their baby blue color. mactire
First Great Company - Shadow Grey/The Fang (about 80% complete inc. transports) Second Great Company - Administratum Grey with a Nuln Oil wash (about 5% complete ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291664-painting-style/#findComment-3706913 Share on other sites
WolfskinWarrior
I prefer Mechanicus Standard with a Nuln Oil wash as I prefer the colour schemes on the colour artwork. Tho Thunderhawk Blue with a Nuln Oil wash will give you a rough base to work on for a bluey grey scheme. Follow this with a light drybrush of Longbeard Grey/Elthirium Blue (Dry Paints) depending on your preferred finish (Blue/Grey) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291664-painting-style/#findComment-3707196 Share on other sites

Dantay VI
I use both the grey & the grey-blue. I have decided to use the grey for my elites and HQ's to show that they get the older, relic-y armour of their forebears while the rest get the newly forged grey blue that the Imperium has foisted upon them. Does anybody know the fluff reason for the change in colour? Leif Bearclaw
No, but I'd guess that gradually the components of Astartes Armour Paint: Grey NO#5077895 have shifted over 10,000 years. Either due to war disrupting the initial pigment supplies, or someone misplaced a bit of the recipe, so a replacement is found which is 'close enough'. Expand over 10 millennia and yeah, I'll buy that your 'Grey' is now closer to blue . Spazmonkey
Nice models! how did you get your pod so dirty? -rps I use devlin mud on the Grey spray paint. I also use a semi gloss spray paint as the grey under coat. The devlin mud wash takes away any indication of the gloss but allows for a much better drying pattern than the matt finish grey paints. I also use an undiluted heavy devlin mud on the models, then water down the brush and move the wash around to where i want it. I like the heavy smokey and dirty look. It gives a level of weathering without basically any effort. Later when i want to upgrade the painting to more than table top quality it is easier to just add to the existing scheme. This is entire scheme is just a semi gloss gray spray paint. then a single coat of the other colours on the model, then one heavy wash of Devlin mud. simple and fast, but gives a good table top quality look.
