Interceptors + Shrike

Now that GKs and Space Marines are battle brothers, Space Marine ICs can join GK squads and vice versa.

One combination I am looking at is attaching Shrike to a squad of Interceptors, since they both mutually benefit one another:

-Shrike allows the squad to Infiltrate (setting up good Psycannon shooting turn 1 and assault as required in later turns) and gives them stealth, allowing them to maximize cover that is available. He also provides Ld 10 and the ability to break off and charge a separate unit if required, using his Jump Pack in both the movement and assault phases to help ensure he gets stuck in.

-Interceptors provide an escort for Shrike, solid ranged firepower (2 Psycannons and 8 Psybolt SBs can do some significant damage), and most Importantly, Hammerhand. Shirke has decent CC capability on his own, but when you combine a pair of rending, MCed lighting claws with S6, that means he is basically auto-wounding almost any regular infantry in the game and even a decent threat against MCs. Combine this with the 16 S6 AP3 Force Weapon attacks from the Interceptors on the charge and you have a unit that should threaten anything except unit with a 2+ save.

You forgot than interceptors strike at I6 with halberds too msn-wink.gif It's a good combination. I've not considered allying in some SM for interceptors, but if they roll a 1 on the Perils chart then your Warlord will probably die.

[edit]Oh and its 17 attacks as the Justicar has 2A base.

Park a Jump CM with Shield Eternal next to the Justicar, to Tank any Perils overflow.

I need to review Shrike, Infiltrate and 7th.

I didn't think you could attach an IC with Infiltrate to a unit without it.

Otherwise Shrike and 10 Paladin? msn-wink.gif

The rules forbid attaching an IC without Infiltrate to a unit of Infiltrators. But from the wording on Infiltrate, it appears they allow IC's with Infiltrate to grant it to units.

"Units that contain at least one model with this special rule..."

pg 167, 40k Main Rulebook

So I think Shrike is a go :)

Well, he still can't infiltrate them, outside of joining them in reserves and outflanking them. :(

Infiltrators still have to deploy last, and by the time you get to deploy Shrike, you have had to already deploy the Interceptors, as they aren't Infiltrators.

:(

Yes, Shrike is limited to attaching to only Jumppack Infantry at the beginning of the game (hence this post on how to use him with GK Interceptors), but for those who want to infiltrate GKTs or Paladins or Purifiers, you always have the option of taking Cypher and using him to confer Infiltrate to those unit (he also gives the unit Shrouded and has some very potent shooting/close combat of his own).

Back on topic, the only thing I can think of to further enhance the Shrike/Interceptor combo is to use Grand Strategy to buff the Interceptors, giving them either reroll to Wounds of 1 (so quasi Preferred enemy), Scout (which they should convey to attached Shrike, per the Scout USR description), or Objective Secured status (if that is how Grand Strategy is FAQed, which I hope/suspect it will be... Otherwise, what is the point, since all units are scoring already).

My brain hurts. What is the point of Shrike having Infiltrate then?
