What do you use as an Archaeotech Pistol?

Recommended Posts

So I've been thumbing through my copy of Betrayal and writing up some lists for my force, and I'm intending to arm my Praetor with an Archaeotech Pistol, but I'm not keen on the pistol included with FW's Praetors set.

I'm debating whether to give my Praetor an archaeotech laspistol, which supposedly has a longer range, better power and is more efficient, but I'm curious what other members of the forum have used as one of these vaunted and rare weapons in place of FW's weapon.

The name archeotech implies it's a catch-all term for all sorts of weird weapons, ranging from artificer-engineered versions of a standard laspistol, to precious antique artefacts that predate the Age of Strife. There are some nice laspistols available in various Guard kits; there is a particularly nice one in the new Stormtrooper box.

You might also use it to represent something more esoteric, like a unique type of weapon, or even a xenos curiosity like the crystal neuro-disruptor from Rogue Trader.

If you take this approach, you've got a lot of freedom to play around. You might consider using a weapon from a Necron or Dark/Craftworld Eldar kit; or perhaps something steampunky from the Warhammer Empire line, like the pistolier's weapons. If you're happy to go outside GW, there's a huge amount of great guns available from companies like Heresy and Hasslefree.
